Forecast summary

Regional forecast for East of England

Dry and sunny for most, but also cold.

Today:

A frosty start, with any early mist or fog patches soon clearing. It will then be a dry day, with plenty of sunshine, and only limited amounts of cloud. Winds will remain light, but it will still be feeling cold. Maximum Temperature 5 °C.

Tonight:

A very cold night, with largely clear skies, leading to a widespread frost. Mist or fog is then likely to develop in places by dawn. Minimum Temperature -4 °C.

Monday:

Overnight mist and fog could be slow to clear. Elsewhere, it will remain dry, with patchy cloud, but also some brighter or sunny spells developing later. Staying cold. Maximum Temperature 5 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Mist and fog likely Tuesday and perhaps Wednesday. Otherwise mostly dry with patchy cloud, but also some brighter or sunny spells. Gradually turning less cold, but overnight frosts remain likely.

UK forecast for the next 5 days

Staying mostly settled, with some persistent fog patches developing.

Today:

Mist and fog patches will clear through the morning, to leave a bright and sunny day across the south. Elsewhere, there'll be some patchy cloud with showery outbreaks of rain in the north and west, turning to snow over hills.

Tonight:

It'll stay dry overnight with some patchy cloud. A frost will form where clear spells develop, as well as some widespread and locally dense freezing fog in the south.

Monday:

Areas of fog across central England will be slow to clear through the morning, perhaps persisting through the day in some places. Elsewhere, it'll be dry with sunny spells.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Persistent fog patches are likely again Tuesday morning. Looking ahead, it'll stay cold and dry in the south and east, but milder in the north and west with some rain.

Outlook for the UK over the next 6-30 days

UK Outlook for Thursday 26 Jan 2017 to Saturday 4 Feb 2017:

Thursday will stay dry and cold for most with sunshine in the east. It will become increasingly cloudy and windy in the north-west and heavy rain will reach Northern Ireland before the end of the day. The rain will spread into mainland UK overnight but the south-east will probably stay dry throughout Friday. This will mark a change to generally wet and windy weather over the weekend and next week. Bands of rain will cross the country, interspersed with brighter and showery interludes. It will be windy at times, with gales likely in the north-west. The heaviest rain is also likely across northern and western parts. Temperatures are likely to be mild for late January, however there is a chance that the south-east could stay drier and colder.

UK Outlook for Sunday 5 Feb 2017 to Sunday 19 Feb 2017:

At the start of this period the most likely scenario is for more unsettled weather with wet and windy spells interspersed with brighter and showery interludes. This would bring gales at times, especially in the north-west. Temperatures are likely to be slightly above normal for the time of year. South-eastern parts may well stay drier and brighter. From the second week of February, confidence in the forecast reduces but there is a possibility that high pressure will return, bringing more settled weather with lighter winds and a return of overnight frost and fog. As a result, temperatures may become colder at times although the chance of very cold weather developing is considered to be low.
