Forecast summary

Regional forecast for East of England

Storm Doris bringing heavy rain and gales.

Today:

A wet morning, with a band of heavy blustery rain spreading east. Then turning very windy with gales, perhaps turning severe along coasts, leading to the risk of disruption. Further outbreaks of rain are also likely, especially across northern parts. Maximum Temperature 10 °C.

Tonight:

Brisk north to northwesterly winds will ease overnight, however showers are likely to continue moving in from the North Sea. A cold night, especially where any clearer spells develop. Minimum Temperature 0 °C.

Friday:

A cold morning, with sunny spells and any showers easing. Whilst cloud will thicken from the west during the afternoon, it will remain dry with lighter winds than on Thursday. Maximum Temperature 8 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Cloudy, mild but windy Saturday, with some rain possible. Mostly dry but often cloudy and also breezy Sunday. Early rain Monday clearing to brighter spells and showers and turning cold.

UK forecast for the next 5 days

Storm Doris brings widespread gales, and snow in southern Scotland.

Today:

Very strong winds and rain will affect much of the country today, particularly north Wales, the Midlands, northern England and East Anglia. There will be lighter winds in Scotland, but significant snowfall in the southern Uplands and the central belt.

Tonight:

The wind will die down and rain will clear most parts, but there will be wintry showers in Wales, north-west England and western Scotland and a risk of patchy ice.

Friday:

Tomorrow will be dry and cooler for most with light winds and plenty of sunshine. There will be more rain and strong winds in Northern Ireland and western Scotland later.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

The next few days will stay rather unsettled with spells of rain and strong winds, especially in the northwest. It will turn colder on Monday with sunshine and blustery showers.

Outlook for the UK over the next 6-30 days

UK Outlook for Monday 27 Feb 2017 to Wednesday 8 Mar 2017:

A fairly unsettled picture is likely at first, as further weather systems affect the UK from the Atlantic. Showery spells could affect many areas, particularly in the north-west where these may be thundery at times and could bring snow to higher ground, and even lower levels further north. Milder, cloudier weather is likely to be more prevalent further south and east at first, but all areas are likely to turn colder by the mid-week with an increasing risk of overnight frost. The changeable Atlantic influence is likely to remain in place as we go into March, with cloudy spells accompanied by rain and strong winds at times, falling as snow further north. There is a smaller likelihood of more settled conditions with overnight fog and frost by early March.

Updated at: 1226 on Wed 22 Feb 2017

UK Outlook for Thursday 9 Mar 2017 to Thursday 23 Mar 2017:

For March there is a fair amount of uncertainty, but the weather is most likely to be unsettled at first. There will be spells of wet and windy weather, interspersed with brighter and showery conditions with some snow possible across the north of the UK. There will, however, also be some drier and brighter spells, particularly in the south and east where we may see some local frost and fog at times overnight. Temperatures are expected to be around average for the time of year but there remains a small chance of seeing a more prolonged cold spell, if settled conditions were to develop more widely. This is more likely later in the period.
