Highlands & Eilean Siar

Rain warning of yellow

Yellow warning of rain

Be aware

Valid from 12:10 on Sunday until 06:00 on Monday

Rain will continue to affect northwest Scotland on Sunday. The rain will be persistent and often heavy across western areas, and as much milder air arrives, lying snow in upland areas will thaw. Clearer showery weather will reach the Northwest Highlands on Sunday evening, the more persistent rain clearing southwards from Argyll by Monday morning. The public should be aware of the risk of localised flooding, particularly on the road network, where there will be a lot of surface water and spray. This updates the warning issued on Saturday.

Chief Forecaster's assessment

A complex series of fronts will affect Scotland from early on Sunday, introducing mild rain-bearing southwesterly winds. The heaviest rain will be in the west where 30-50 mm is likely within a 24-hour period and perhaps 80 mm or more over some hilly areas. Snow-melt will add to these totals, increasing the risk of flooding.

The public is advised to take extra care, further information and advice can be found here: http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/warnings/
