Ice warning of yellow

Yellow warning of ice

Be aware

Valid from 18:00 on Tuesday until 10:00 on Wednesday

Following showers of a wintry mix during Tuesday, icy stretches are expected to form on untreated surfaces on Tuesday evening and last into Wednesday morning's rush hour. In addition, further showers are likely overnight which may lead to wash-off of salt. These showers will be wintry over high ground, giving further local snow accumulations of some 2-5 cm above around 400 m though nearer 250 m over northern Scotland. The public should be aware of the risk of tricky traveling conditions in places.

Chief Forecaster's assessment

The cold westerly flow covering the UK will gradually veer round to northwesterly overnight. Further showers are likely overnight, but with the air slightly less cold than than of late, accumulating snow levels should be largely confined to higher ground.

The public is advised to take extra care, further information and advice can be found here: http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/warnings/
