Wind warning of yellow

Yellow warning of wind

Be aware

Valid from 17:00 on Saturday until 04:00 on Sunday

Very strong winds are expected on Saturday evening and overnight into Sunday, wind gusts of 50-60 mph quite widely, and in excess of 70 mph over exposed coasts, hills and some bridges. The public should be aware of the potential for disruption to travel and power supplies.

Chief Forecaster's assessment

A rapidly deepening depression is expected to cross northern Scotland on Saturday night, bringing very strong west to southwesterly winds on its southern flank. In addition to strong winds large waves will affect sea fronts. There is still some uncertainty regarding the track and intensity of the depression, and therefore areas at greatest risk of disruptive winds. As such, this warning will be reviewed and updated as necessary.

The public is advised to take extra care, further information and advice can be found here: http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/warnings/
