Snow warning of yellow Ice warning of yellow

Yellow warning of snow and ice

Be aware

Valid from 21:00 on Thursday until 06:00 on Saturday

Snow showers are expected to continue throughout Thursday night, Friday and early Saturday, giving lying snow above 200 m. Some drifting of the lying snow will also occur in the strong winds. Icy patches will occur on untreated surfaces. The public should be aware of some hazardous driving conditions.

Chief Forecaster's assessment

A cold and unstable west to northwesterly flow will become established across Scotland later on Thursday and persist through to early Saturday. Frequent showers of hail, sleet and snow are likely, with around 2 to 5 cm of snow settling above 200 m and 10 cm or more about around 400 m. Ice is likely to form on untreated surfaces, especially at night and at altitude, whilst lightning may be an added hazard in some of the heavier showers.

The public is advised to take extra care, further information and advice can be found here: http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/warnings/
