Snow warning of yellow

Yellow warning of snow

Be aware

03:00 on Friday until 11:00 on Friday

This is a further update to extend the area of concern into both southeastern Aberdeenshire and parts of Northumberland. A spell of persistent and at times heavy snow currently affecting the area contained by the warning will last into Friday. By Friday morning, accumulations of 5-10 cm are likely above about 100 m with 15 cm or more possible above 200 m. Northern and southern fringes of the warning area are not likely to see accumulations as high as this. At lower levels and near coasts an uncertain mix of rain and snow is expected, with rain likely to predominate, bringing the risk of standing water on roads. Please be aware of the risk of dangerous driving conditions and disruption to transport.

Chief Forecaster's assessment

A depression which has crossed northern parts of Northern England early Friday is bringing a slow-moving band of rain, sleet and snow into the area. This has stalled across eastern Scotland for a time early on Friday and will go on to push away east or southeastwards through the course of Friday. The highest snowfall accumulations look likely to be away from the northern and southern fringes of the warning area. There remain uncertainties about the lowest level to which snow will fall, which could be 100 m either side of heights quoted in the warning. This warning will be kept under review and may be updated.
