Rain warning of yellow

Yellow warning of rain

Be aware

Valid from 14:00 on Tuesday until 20:00 on Tuesday

Scattered showers are expected to develop across Scotland during Tuesday afternoon with some of these becoming heavy and thundery. The showers are likely to be slow-moving across northeast Scotland and as a result there is the potential for large rainfall accumulations here in a short period of time. Whilst many places could miss the showers the public should be aware of the risk of localised flooding and difficult driving conditions in any surface water.

Chief Forecaster's assessment

Warm, unstable air across the area will allow locally torrential showers to build. With 20 mm or so in a short period of time, flash flooding could occur, especially if it happens to fall in an urban area. Lightning and hail will be an additional possible hazards.

The public is advised to take extra care, further information and advice can be found here: http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/warnings/
