Rain warning of yellow

Yellow warning of rain

Be aware

11:00 on Saturday until 20:00 on Saturday

Showers are expected to break out later on Saturday morning and become heavy, thundery and slow-moving during the afternoon. Some locations will miss the downpours, but where they do occur, please be aware of the risk of localised surface water flooding, especially where they affect urban areas. Lightning will be an added hazard; perhaps also hail. The showers will slowly die out through the evening.

Chief Forecaster's assessment

An unstable airmass covers the UK, and as temperatures rise, heavy showers will break out today. Due to light winds the downpours are likely to be slow-moving and could produce up to 20 mm rainfall in less than an hour, leading to a risk of surface water flooding. As usual in this sort of situation, some places will miss the showers whilst nearby locations experience heavy downpours.

The public is advised to take extra care, further information and advice can be found here: http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/warnings/
