Service details
Available for around 3,000 world locations, this product provides
3-hourly observations (i.e. actual weather), for a range of weather
elements.
Summary of service
details
- Hourly observations for around 3,000 world locations.
- Elements provided - windspeed (knots), wind direction (compass
points), temperature (degrees Celsius), significant weather,
visibility (description - good, moderate, poor etc), pressure
(mb), pressure tendency (rising, falling, steady), humidity (%).
- Observations are updated every three hours (00, 03 UTC etc.
- local time equivalent is used for different time zones).
- CSV format.
- The information is pushed from our server to yours via FTP
push.
- The complete file of 3,000 world locations is sent to you via
FTP but you then have to programme your site to only display
the number of locations for which you have purchased a licence.
- It is the number of locations information that you are licenced
to display which is important not the actual locations.
The latest world observations file contains detailed current weather
information for a large number of global locations, and forms an
ideal accompaniment to the five-day world cities forecast.
Format
The observed data for the 3,000 cities will appear arrive as a
CSV file. The following is an example of an extract from such a
file:

The format of this data is as follows:
Item 1: Unique site ID number, of form NNNN.
Item 2: Site name. This is a string of up to 50 characters.
Item 3: US state. This is a string of up to 14 characters (for
non USA sites this field is blank).
Item 4: Site Country. This is a string of up to 25 characters.
Item 5: Site Continent. This is a string of up to 11 characters.
Item 6: Site Type. This is a string of up to 7 characters and will
be one of 'City', 'Port' or 'Airport'.
Item 7: Observation Hour, of form HHMM.
Item 8: Day of the week. This is a 3 character string eg/ 'Mon',
'Tue', etc.
Item 9: Observation Day.
Item 10: Observation Month.
Item 11: Observation Year.
Item 12: Wind Direction. This is a string of up to 2 characters
i.e.. 'N', 'NW', 'SE', 'E' etc. Missing data:'N/A'
Item 13: Wind Speed, in Knots. Missing data: -99
Item 14: Temperature, in degrees Celsius. Missing data: -99
Item 15: Sig Wx. This will be the Significant Weather code for
daytime. Missing data: -99
Item 16: Visibility. This is a string of up to 9 characters consisting
of a description. Missing data: 'N/A'
Item 17: Pressure, in hectaPascals. Missing data: -99
Item 18: Tendency. This is a string of 1 character: i.e.. R(ising);
F(alling); S(teady). Missing data: N(o data)
Item 19: Humidity, as a percentage. Missing data: -99

Pricing
The latest world observations product is priced at £15,450
+ VAT per annum, assuming a one-year
contract. Customers can take out a licence for fewer cities, at
a fee of £5.15 + VAT per location
per annum, subject to a minimum 100 cities. The price is purely
for the service detailed and does not include technical support.
