Frequent showers continue across northwest Scotland this evening. Then persistent heavy rain arrives here overnight, and into Northern Ireland later. Generally dry elsewhere, but some patchy rain/drizzle in the west. Windy in the north, with severe gales across northwest Scotland.

Sunday:

Staying very wet and windy across northwest Scotland, but rain largely clearing Northern Ireland. Windy elsewhere but much drier and brighter, particularly in the east. Patchy drizzle in the west.

Outlook for Monday to Wednesday:

Still wet and windy northwest Scotland, drier elsewhere on Monday. Wind and rain eases and moves south across the UK through Tuesday. Turning drier, and chillier across Britain on Wednesday.

UK Outlook for Thursday 30 Oct 2014 to Saturday 8 Nov 2014:

Becoming generally cloudy across the UK, but staying dry with bright spells across southern and eastern parts on Thursday. Northern and western parts will become wetter with outbreaks of rain. The rain will likely become heavier and more persistent later that day. Winds also increase, becoming strong in the west, and gales may develop across the far northwest. A north-south split then looks most likely to dominate. The most wetter, windier conditions likely in the north and northwest; with gales, perhaps even severe gales in the far northwest, next weekend. The best of the drier weather likely in the south and southeast; although there is likely to be some rain here at times. Temperatures generally near normal, but perhaps falling slightly below average later with snow on Scottish mountains possible.

UK Outlook for Sunday 9 Nov 2014 to Sunday 23 Nov 2014:

The main signal is for a continuation of a north-south split during the second week of November. During this period, the generally westerly flow is likely to bring spells of wet and windy weather, mostly affecting northern and some western areas. However, southern and some eastern areas will probably see more in the way of drier and settled conditions increasing the likelihood of some sunshine, but also the risk of frost, mist and fog overnight, the latter of which could be slow to clear. After this it looks set to turn more changeable across the south and east. Daytime temperatures will probably be near or a little above normal, although feeling cooler during any wet and windy spells.
