Starting bright, but thicker cloud and wintry showers quickly developing, some heavy with hail and thunder. Some temporary snowfalls on high ground but melting in sun. Freshening southwesterly winds, strong around coasts, with northwesterly gales on Derry coast by evening. Maximum Temperature 10C.

Tonight:

A mixture of clear intervals and showers some of these wintry and bringing some snowfalls mainly over the higher ground. Strong northwesterly winds with coastal gales gradually easing. Minimum Temperature 0C.

Tuesday:

A bright day with some sunshine, but also some showers and still cold enough for these to be wintry over higher ground. Fresh westerly winds, strong near coasts, gradually easing. Maximum Temperature 11C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Overnight rain then sunshine and showers on Wednesday, and similar on Thursday. Friday will be dry with some sunshine. Still rather cold with some overnight frost.

Showers continuing for many northern and western parts, wintry over hills in the north and occasionally to lower levels. Drier elsewhere, and cold for most with a local frost developing.

Tuesday:

A bright, breezy day with showers, mainly across northern and western parts, but also some lengthy sunny spells. Showers may be heavy at times and wintry over some hills.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Strong winds and rain for most on Wednesday, clearing eastwards to sunshine and showers by Thursday. Drier for many on Friday. Staying rather cold, with some hill snow in north.

UK Outlook for Friday 1 May 2015 to Sunday 10 May 2015:

Friday 1st May is likely to be mainly settled, but cool. Most places should remain dry with some sunny spells, though a few showers are possible, mainly in the north and east. Similar conditions will probably prevail over north and eastern parts through Saturday, but it will turn more unsettled again in the south and west with thicker cloud and some outbreaks of rain developing. These will probably move NE to affect all parts by Bank Holiday Monday. The rest of the period is expected to remain unsettled, with the wettest and windiest conditions being in the north and west, and the best of the drier and brighter spells in the southeast. Temperatures through the period are likely to be below average with local night frosts, especially in the north.

UK Outlook for Monday 11 May 2015 to Monday 25 May 2015:

Changeable and at times unsettled conditions are most likely to persist for much of this period, though it may turn less unsettled from around mid-May onwards. These conditions are fairly typical for the time of year, with most areas experiencing spells of fine and bright weather interspersed with more changeable conditions. The most unsettled conditions are more probable across central and northern areas, with transient spells of more settled weather more likely in the in the south and southeast, especially later on in the month. Daytime temperatures are likely to be near or little below average, especially during any unsettled spells. As is common for the time of year, spells of settled weather are likely to be accompanied by chilly evenings with isolated overnight frost in rural areas.
