UK forecast for the next 5 days

A chilly start, then a fine and dry day.

Today:

A chilly start, especially in the north. Then a fine, fresh day with sunny intervals. Dry for the bulk of the UK, just the chance of the odd light shower for some eastern counties, and breezy for North Sea coasts.

Tonight:

A fine end to the day for most, and clear spells overnight, so turning chilly more widely tonight, with grass frost likely in some rural areas.

Monday:

Another dry and bright day for most with sunny spells and light winds. Clouding over in the far northwest with some rain for northwest Scotland into the afternoon.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Turning more unsettled from the northwest, though rain becoming increasingly light and patchy as it spreads southeastwards. Brighter with showers Wednesday. Cloudy, breezy and damp on Thursday.

Outlook for the UK over the next 6-30 days

UK Outlook for Friday 26 Sep 2014 to Sunday 5 Oct 2014:

Fairly cloudy at first, though some sunny intervals developing for central, southern and eastern parts of the UK. Outbreaks of rain are expected for northern and western areas, more persistent for parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland, although clearer, showery weather should follow for a time. It will be quite windy here too. Temperatures generally near or a little above normal. Into the following week, the north and west are likely to remain the windiest and most unsettled parts of the UK, with the best of the weather further south and east. However, a little rain is to be expected here at times. Temperatures should be a little above normal for most. This general northwest-southwest split in the weather is then likely to continue into the start of October.

UK Outlook for Monday 6 Oct 2014 to Monday 20 Oct 2014:

The broadly northwest-southeast split in weather conditions expected to become established for late September and early October is then showing signs of persisting into mid-October. This pattern would leave southern, central and eastern parts tending to see the best of the weather with conditions often fine and dry. Occasional bouts of rain should still be expected, and mist and fog patches may be a problem during morning rush hours but under fine weather it should feel pleasant. Further northwest, conditions are likely to be more unsettled with more frequent outbreaks of rain, perhaps accompanied by strong winds, temperatures here then often closer to average or perhaps even just below at times.

Newcastle information

Newcastle, in the metropolitan borough of Tyne and Wear, is the biggest city in the North East of England.

Traditionally, Newcastle was a town belonging to the county of Northumberland and was developed as a fort on Hadrian’s Wall during the roman rule. The city owes its name to a castle built in 1080 by Robert II, Duke of Normandy, but gained its importance as a trade city because of its proximity to the Tyne River.

During the industrial revolution Newcastle was famous for coal mining and the ship yards along the lower sections of the River Tyne, and became one of the world’s largest shipbuilding and repairing centres.

There are many icons associated with Newcastle including Newcastle Brown Ale (a popular beer that is exported around the world) the Angel of the North and the Tyne Bridge. However, perhaps the most famous icon in the city is Newcastle United. Many a famous name, including Alan Shearer, Jackie Milburn, Peter Beardsley and Kevin Keegan have worn the famous black and white stripes in this football-mad city.

The city is also known on the sporting map for the Great North Run, which between Newcastle and South Shields, whilst Newcastle Falcons play rugby union at Kingston Park in the Gosforth area of the city. In neighbouring Gateshead, the Gateshead International Stadium hosts regular athletics meetings as well as other sporting events.

The city is also one of great culture and entertainment, boasting more theatres per person than anywhere else in the UK. These attract a variety of acts including west end shows, famous comedians, pop singers and classical artists.

The arts are not forgotten here either with the most well-known icon being Anthony Gormley’s Angel of the North. With miles of sandy coastlines, Tynemouth Priory, Hadrian’s Wall and the MetroCentre (the second largest shopping complex in the UK), there is something to suit everybody’s tastes in Newcastle.
