Outlook for the UK over the next 6-30 days

UK Outlook for Thursday 25 Sep 2014 to Saturday 4 Oct 2014:

Southern parts of the UK will be dry at first with sunny spells but it will be cloudier in the north and west with rain at times. The rain will spread southwards, gradually weakening, although some southern and southeastern areas will probably remain dry. Brighter, showery weather may follow to the northwest. It will be quite windy, with gales in the far north, and temperatures close to normal. Into the weekend the most likely scenario is for northwestern parts of the UK to see the most unsettled conditions with strong winds and outbreaks of rain. Further south and east there should be lengthier drier periods interspersed with occasional rain. It may become warm again here. This pattern of weather is expected to stay similar into the following week.

UK Outlook for Sunday 5 Oct 2014 to Sunday 19 Oct 2014:

The north-south split in the weather is more likely than not to continue for most of the period. The best of the drier and brighter conditions are expected to be across the south and east of the UK. Here, daytime temperatures are likely to be around, and often above average with some warm sunshine. However, it could turn quite chilly during the nights, with a risk of fog patches in places. Northern and western parts are likely to see more frequent outbreaks of rain and strong winds, with gales in the far north. Daytime temperatures here are set to be below or close to average.

Newcastle information

Newcastle, in the metropolitan borough of Tyne and Wear, is the biggest city in the North East of England.

Traditionally, Newcastle was a town belonging to the county of Northumberland and was developed as a fort on Hadrian’s Wall during the roman rule. The city owes its name to a castle built in 1080 by Robert II, Duke of Normandy, but gained its importance as a trade city because of its proximity to the Tyne River.

During the industrial revolution Newcastle was famous for coal mining and the ship yards along the lower sections of the River Tyne, and became one of the world’s largest shipbuilding and repairing centres.

There are many icons associated with Newcastle including Newcastle Brown Ale (a popular beer that is exported around the world) the Angel of the North and the Tyne Bridge. However, perhaps the most famous icon in the city is Newcastle United. Many a famous name, including Alan Shearer, Jackie Milburn, Peter Beardsley and Kevin Keegan have worn the famous black and white stripes in this football-mad city.

The city is also known on the sporting map for the Great North Run, which between Newcastle and South Shields, whilst Newcastle Falcons play rugby union at Kingston Park in the Gosforth area of the city. In neighbouring Gateshead, the Gateshead International Stadium hosts regular athletics meetings as well as other sporting events.

The city is also one of great culture and entertainment, boasting more theatres per person than anywhere else in the UK. These attract a variety of acts including west end shows, famous comedians, pop singers and classical artists.

The arts are not forgotten here either with the most well-known icon being Anthony Gormley’s Angel of the North. With miles of sandy coastlines, Tynemouth Priory, Hadrian’s Wall and the MetroCentre (the second largest shopping complex in the UK), there is something to suit everybody’s tastes in Newcastle.
