Outlook for the UK over the next 6-30 days

UK Outlook for Monday 3 Aug 2015 to Wednesday 12 Aug 2015:

A fine start in the east on Monday, but cloud and rain will spread erratically north and eastwards through the day. Isolated thunderstorms may also affect the far southeast for a time. Temperatures are likely to be above normal for many, and potentially very warm or hot in the southeast. Cloud and rain will clear through all but the far northeast by Tuesday, with much fresher, showery conditions developing behind. Thereafter, changeable conditions are likely to continue, with the north most likely to see more frequent spells of wind and rain, and southern areas seeing the best of any drier and settled weather. Temperatures are likely to be near or just below normal in the north, and most likely near normal in the south, however some warmer spells are possible.

UK Outlook for Thursday 13 Aug 2015 to Thursday 27 Aug 2015:

There are signals for a continuation of a north-south spilt in the weather during the middle of August. The north is likely to see the most frequent spells of wind and rain, with the best of the drier and more settled conditions in the south, although some outbreaks of rain are likely to reach here at times. Temperatures on the whole will be near or a little below average for the time of year, especially in the north, although in any settled spells of weather in the south temperatures may become rather warm at times.

Exeter information

The city of Exeter is located in south-west England in the county of Devon. Settled on the river Exe, it has a population of approximately 120,000 and acts as Devon County Council's administrative centre with excellent national and international transport links.

The city's motto, semper fidelis ('always loyal') is said to have been adopted in the late 16th century when Queen Elizabeth I gave thanks to its citizens for putting up a monetary gift with which the English built ships to defeat the Spanish Armada. Before the Industrial Revolution gave rise to the rapid growth of other cities, Exeter was vital to the country's trade, with its fertile land and accessible waterways allowing for a huge industry at the time. Exeter is now better known for its reputation in the service sector, with a 2001 study naming the city as one of the most profitable locations in the UK from which to start a business.

Given its healthy transport links to other regions of England, supported by Exeter airport serving a variety of British and European destinations, it's no surprise that Exeter also enjoys a thriving tourist trade. Along with its proximity to the rural treasures on Devon and Cornwall, Exeter is well-known for its status as a Fairtrade Town, having pledged to promote its lifestyle and products. Along with the great retail facilities, all of the above is what makes Exeter an ideal base for holidaymakers from which to explore their surroundings.

The Exeter Rowing Regatta is a very popular event during the summer and supporters from all over the south-west come to Exeter Quay to see the finest boat racers in competition. Located close to seaside restaurants and an outdoor market, it's an ideal way to spend a summer's day - the quayside also has many souvenir shops and even the odd antique dealer.

If you're interested in seeing the sights of Exeter's landmarks then a Red Coat Guided Tour is highly recommended. This approximately 90-minute walking tour will show off all the unique features of Exeter's history as well as providing tourists with spoken histories of events gone by. It's a great way to spend time in the town.

Visitors are also attracted to Exeter Racecourse, which plays host to some of Britain's finest thoroughbreds, as well as St James Park, the home of Exeter FC.

In 2015 rugby fans will flock to Exeter Chief's Sandy Park, as it has been selected as one of 13 match venues for the Rugby World Cup. The ground will play host to three World Cup matches.
