UK forecast for the next 5 days

Mainly dull, cold and wet Wednesday. Some sunshine in northwest.

This Evening and Tonight:

Outbreaks of rain and patchy hill fog across the south will spread northwards over much of England and Wales, to reach southern Scotland by dawn. Ahead of this rain, fog patches will reform and thicken, with a localised frost.

Wednesday:

Many places will be dull and misty with outbreaks of rain, making it feel cold. The best of any brightness will be in northwest Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Cloud and rain gradually clearing eastwards through Thursday. Thereafter, often cloudy and windy with patchy light rain, but also some brightness at times, mainly in the south. Temperatures near normal.

Issued at: 1600 on Tue 25 Nov 2014

Outlook for the UK over the next 6-30 days

UK Outlook for Sunday 30 Nov 2014 to Tuesday 9 Dec 2014:

Rain across northwestern parts on Sunday gradually moving southeastwards through Monday, weakening as it does so, with clearer and colder conditions following. Generally cloudy conditions ahead of this rain with a few spots of rain or drizzle, and locally murky conditions. Thereafter mainly dry and settled weather is most likely, with some sunny spells, but also an increasing risk of fog and frost patches as winds ease through the week. However, northwestern parts are likely to be unsettled and windy at times with showers or longer spells of rain. Temperatures will be around normal, or rather cold, especially where fog lingers. The week after next, the more unsettled conditions in the northwest, are increasingly likely to spread to other parts of the UK and temperatures perhaps becoming less cold.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 10 Dec 2014 to Wednesday 24 Dec 2014:

There is no strong signal in weather patterns during this period. However, the most likely scenario is a trend towards more unsettled and, at times, windy weather, especially in western parts of the UK, with eastern parts seeing the best of any dry weather. Temperatures are generally expected to be around, or a little above, average for the time of year. There is a chance of some overnight and morning frost and fog in places - this will be more likely across northern areas where there is also a chance of some snow on higher ground.

London information

The city of London is the capital of England and is located in the South East of England on the river Thames.

London has been a major settlement for approximately two millennia and was originally founded by the Romans. As the capital of England, it is a leading metropolitan city and is one of the world's leading financial hubs.

London is made up of a number of boroughs, stretching from Hillingdon, Hounslow and Richmond in the West, across to Havering, Bexley and Barking & Dagenham in the East. Barnet and Enfield are on the northern edge of the city whilst Croydon, Sutton and Bromley are found in the south.

Unsurprisingly, London one of the world's top tourist cities and it is easy to see why. From fantastic shopping in Kensington & Chelsea through to sightseeing in the historic areas of Westminster, London has something for all tastes and budgets.

For many visitors, the main attraction in London is Buckingham Palace, home to the Queen and various members of the British Royal Family. It has served as the residence of British royals since 1837 and is still today the administrative centre for the Monarch and Royal Family. Hosting 775 rooms, the palace opens only 19 state rooms for tours during the summer, although these are decorated with some pieces from the royal collection and form the heart of the palace.

Sport is a huge part of London life, with Wembley Stadium hosting major events including the FA Cup final and every home England international football match. The city's two major cricket venues, Lords and The Oval, hold regular Test matches and in Newham, the Olympic Stadium played host to the 2012 Olympic Games. The city is also home to some of Europe's leading football clubs, including Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.

London is also at the heart of the tennis calendar every summer during the Wimbledon championships. Some of the world's finest players (and occasionally, the weather) have taken centre stage over the years at SW19 to create some of sports most iconic memories.

At the O2 Arena (formally known as the Millennium Dome), some of the world's leading names from the world of music, sport and entertainment wow the crowds whilst Leicester Square is synonymous with some of the world's best theatre productions.

Outdoor activities are also an important part of life in London and regular concerts and events are held at Hyde Park which, along with Kensington Gardens, features a memorial to the late Diana, Princess of Wales.
