Outlook for the UK over the next 6-30 days

UK Outlook for Tuesday 1 Sep 2015 to Thursday 10 Sep 2015:

A mixture of sunshine and showers at the start of the period, with a risk of persistent heavy rain in the east. Drier in the west, as settled weather begins to spread east, but with some showers still possible. The settled weather is then likely to become dominant across most areas through the first week of September, with plenty of dry and sunny weather, but windy in the northeast for a time. Northwestern parts may see a change to generally wet and windy conditions later in the period, with southeastern parts holding on to more settled weather. Temperatures start on the cool side with a risk of some overnight frost and fog, but return closer to normal as the month progresses.

UK Outlook for Friday 11 Sep 2015 to Friday 25 Sep 2015:

The northwest is expected to stay unsettled through the remainder of the month, with rain and strong winds likely. Southeastern areas in contrast should see less in the way of rain, and maybe the best of any dry and sunny spells, but with a chance of overnight mist and fog patches. Temperatures should generally be around normal, but with warmer spells under any prolonged sunny periods in the southeast. North and western parts are most likely to see cooler nights throughout with a chance of overnight frosts.

London information

The city of London is the capital of England and is located in the South East of England on the river Thames.

London has been a major settlement for approximately two millennia and was originally founded by the Romans. As the capital of England, it is a leading metropolitan city and is one of the world's leading financial hubs.

London is made up of a number of boroughs, stretching from Hillingdon, Hounslow and Richmond in the West, across to Havering, Bexley and Barking & Dagenham in the East. Barnet and Enfield are on the northern edge of the city whilst Croydon, Sutton and Bromley are found in the south.

Unsurprisingly, London one of the world's top tourist cities and it is easy to see why. From fantastic shopping in Kensington & Chelsea through to sightseeing in the historic areas of Westminster, London has something for all tastes and budgets.

For many visitors, the main attraction in London is Buckingham Palace, home to the Queen and various members of the British Royal Family. It has served as the residence of British royals since 1837 and is still today the administrative centre for the Monarch and Royal Family. Hosting 775 rooms, the palace opens only 19 state rooms for tours during the summer, although these are decorated with some pieces from the royal collection and form the heart of the palace.

Sport is a huge part of London life, with Wembley Stadium hosting major events including the FA Cup final and every home England international football match. The city's two major cricket venues, Lords and The Oval, hold regular Test matches and in Newham, the Olympic Stadium played host to the 2012 Olympic Games. The city is also home to some of Europe's leading football clubs, including Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.

London is also at the heart of the tennis calendar every summer during the Wimbledon championships. Some of the world's finest players (and occasionally, the weather) have taken centre stage over the years at SW19 to create some of sports most iconic memories.

At the O2 Arena (formally known as the Millennium Dome), some of the world's leading names from the world of music, sport and entertainment wow the crowds whilst Leicester Square is synonymous with some of the world's best theatre productions.

Outdoor activities are also an important part of life in London and regular concerts and events are held at Hyde Park which, along with Kensington Gardens, features a memorial to the late Diana, Princess of Wales.
