Regional forecast for London & South East England

Overnight mist and low cloud. Wednesday, warm, sunny spells developing.

Early evening sunshine but mist and low cloud will roll in from the east overnight, giving fog in places, especially over higher areas. Another mild night but with the northeasterly breeze picking up. Minimum Temperature 14C.

Wednesday:

A grey, misty start but sunny spells developing for most and becoming warm. The northeasterly breeze will keep it cooler along the north Kent coast, though, with mist lingering there. Maximum Temperature 24C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Easterly breezes bringing misty low cloud overnight, clearing to very warm, sunny spells for most by day. Risk of slow-moving showers, especially late Thursday into Friday, perhaps heavy and thundery.

UK forecast for the next 5 days

Another misty, cloudy night for some. Brighter and warm later.

This Evening and Tonight:

Extensive low cloud, mist and fog will affect many central and eastern parts of the UK once again tonight, with the chance of drizzle in places too. Dry with some clear spells in the west.

Wednesday:

Many eastern parts staying cloudy with patchy drizzle. Mostly dry elsewhere with warm sunny spells as cloud breaks, but some showers possible later, mainly the far southwest where perhaps thundery.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Further sunny spells for many but cloudier across northeastern areas. Heavy, thundery showers likely to develop, mostly across southern and central parts of the UK where it'll be very warm.

Outlook for the UK over the next 6-30 days

UK Outlook for Sunday 21 Sep 2014 to Tuesday 30 Sep 2014:

Sunday should be mostly fine with sunny spells, although still with the risk of showers in the south, while thickening cloud in the far northwest may bring some light rain later. It is then likely to remain largely settled into early next week, especially in the south, but a little cooler than preceding days, whilst outbreaks of rain alternate with sunshine further north. Later in the week, these more unsettled conditions are likely to spread southeastwards, bringing an increasing risk of spells of rain to much of the UK, but always heaviest towards the north and west. Winds mostly light across the south, but stronger in the northwest, with an increasing risk of gales. Temperatures generally around or somewhat above average, perhaps still warm at times in the southeast.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 1 Oct 2014 to Wednesday 15 Oct 2014:

The first half of October is likely to see more changeable conditions across the UK, with a mixture of fine and settled weather, interspersed with occasional unsettled spells. The drier and brighter conditions, with some warm sunshine, is then expected to be most prolonged across the south and east, whilst outbreaks of rain would then be most frequent across the north and west. During the more settled conditions daytime temperatures are likely to be around, and often above, average although it could turn quite chilly overnight with a risk of fog patches in places. However during any more unsettled spells, daytime temperatures are then likely to be below or close to average.

London weather

The city of London is the capital of England and is located in the South East of England on the river Thames.

London has been a major settlement for approximately two millennia and was originally founded by the Romans. As the capital of England, it is a leading metropolitan city and is one of the world's leading financial hubs.

London is made up of a number of boroughs, stretching from Hillingdon, Hounslow and Richmond in the West, across to Havering, Bexley and Barking & Dagenham in the East. Barnet and Enfield are on the northern edge of the city whilst Croydon, Sutton and Bromley are found in the south.

Unsurprisingly, London one of the world's top tourist cities and it is easy to see why. From fantastic shopping in Kensington & Chelsea through to sightseeing in the historic areas of Westminster, London has something for all tastes and budgets.

For many visitors, the main attraction in London is Buckingham Palace, home to the Queen and various members of the British Royal Family. It has served as the residence of British royals since 1837 and is still today the administrative centre for the Monarch and Royal Family. Hosting 775 rooms, the palace opens only 19 state rooms for tours during the summer, although these are decorated with some pieces from the royal collection and form the heart of the palace.

Sport is a huge part of London life, with Wembley Stadium hosting major events including the FA Cup final and every home England international football match. The city's two major cricket venues, Lords and The Oval, hold regular Test matches and in Newham, the Olympic Stadium played host to the 2012 Olympic Games. The city is also home to some of Europe's leading football clubs, including Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.

London is also at the heart of the tennis calendar every summer during the Wimbledon championships. Some of the world's finest players (and occasionally, the weather) have taken centre stage over the years at SW19 to create some of sports most iconic memories.

At the O2 Arena (formally known as the Millennium Dome), some of the world's leading names from the world of music, sport and entertainment wow the crowds whilst Leicester Square is synonymous with some of the world's best theatre productions.

Outdoor activities are also an important part of life in London and regular concerts and events are held at Hyde Park which, along with Kensington Gardens, features a memorial to the late Diana, Princess of Wales.
