Outlook for the UK over the next 6-30 days

UK Outlook for Tuesday 2 Sep 2014 to Thursday 11 Sep 2014:

Dry for many on Tuesday and Wednesday with sunny spells. However, thicker cloud across northern parts may bring some showery outbreaks of light rain here. The settled conditions will likely extend north from Thursday and into the weekend with sunny periods and light winds. However, the far northwest may see some patchy light rain and drizzle at times. Temperatures are likely to be above average, particularly across southern parts where it could be very warm. Into the following week, the settled conditions may give way to a return of more changeable conditions, with northern and western areas most prone to see some rain at times, whilst southeastern areas are likely to remain mostly dry. Temperatures will be close to average in the northwest, but remain above in the southeast.

UK Outlook for Friday 12 Sep 2014 to Friday 26 Sep 2014:

During mid to late September most regions can expect to see periods of fine weather, with some warm sunshine at times. However, these fine periods may well be interspersed with occasional spells of cloudier, more unsettled conditions bringing showers or longer spells of rain. Northern and western parts are probably most likely to see the more frequent bouts of unsettled weather, whilst southern and eastern parts should see the better fine and dry spells. Daytime temperatures are likely to be above average during fine weather leaving conditions feeling pleasantly warm. Nights, however, may well be on the chilly side. During any unsettled weather daytime temperatures are more likely to be near or below average leaving conditions feeling cool.

London weather

The city of London is the capital of England and is located in the South East of England on the river Thames.

London has been a major settlement for approximately two millennia and was originally founded by the Romans. As the capital of England, it is a leading metropolitan city and is one of the world's leading financial hubs.

London is made up of a number of boroughs, stretching from Hillingdon, Hounslow and Richmond in the West, across to Havering, Bexley and Barking & Dagenham in the East. Barnet and Enfield are on the northern edge of the city whilst Croydon, Sutton and Bromley are found in the south.

Unsurprisingly, London one of the world's top tourist cities and it is easy to see why. From fantastic shopping in Kensington & Chelsea through to sightseeing in the historic areas of Westminster, London has something for all tastes and budgets.

For many visitors, the main attraction in London is Buckingham Palace, home to the Queen and various members of the British Royal Family. It has served as the residence of British royals since 1837 and is still today the administrative centre for the Monarch and Royal Family. Hosting 775 rooms, the palace opens only 19 state rooms for tours during the summer, although these are decorated with some pieces from the royal collection and form the heart of the palace.

Sport is a huge part of London life, with Wembley Stadium hosting major events including the FA Cup final and every home England international football match. The city's two major cricket venues, Lords and The Oval, hold regular Test matches and in Newham, the Olympic Stadium played host to the 2012 Olympic Games. The city is also home to some of Europe's leading football clubs, including Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.

London is also at the heart of the tennis calendar every summer during the Wimbledon championships. Some of the world's finest players (and occasionally, the weather) have taken centre stage over the years at SW19 to create some of sports most iconic memories.

At the O2 Arena (formally known as the Millennium Dome), some of the world's leading names from the world of music, sport and entertainment wow the crowds whilst Leicester Square is synonymous with some of the world's best theatre productions.

Outdoor activities are also an important part of life in London and regular concerts and events are held at Hyde Park which, along with Kensington Gardens, features a memorial to the late Diana, Princess of Wales.
