Outlook for the UK over the next 6-30 days

UK Outlook for Sunday 21 Sep 2014 to Tuesday 30 Sep 2014:

Sunday should be mostly fine with sunny spells, although still with the risk of showers in the south, while thickening cloud in the far northwest may bring some light rain later. It is then likely to remain largely settled into early next week, especially in the south, but a little cooler than preceding days, whilst outbreaks of rain alternate with sunshine further north. Later in the week, these more unsettled conditions are likely to spread southeastwards, bringing an increasing risk of spells of rain to much of the UK, but always heaviest towards the north and west. Winds mostly light across the south, but stronger in the northwest, with an increasing risk of gales. Temperatures generally around or somewhat above average, perhaps still warm at times in the southeast.

UK Outlook for Tuesday 30 Sep 2014 to Tuesday 14 Oct 2014:

The end of September and the first half of October is likely to see more changeable conditions across the UK, with a mixture of fine and settled weather, interspersed with occasional unsettled spells. The drier and brighter conditions, with some warm sunshine, is then expected to be most prolonged across the south and east, whilst outbreaks of rain would then be most frequent across the north and west. During the more settled conditions daytime temperatures are then likely to be around and often above average, although chilly overnight with a risk of fog patches in places. However during any unsettled spells daytime temperatures are then likely to be below or close to average.

Leicester information

Located on the banks of the River Soar, Leicester is home to a population of around 330,000 people. The city, one of the most important cities in the East Midlands, boasts one of the most multicultural populations in the UK, with a diverse mix of communities and cultures.

Leicester is one of the oldest cities in England, with a history going back at least 2,000 years. Before it was named Leicester was known as “Ratae Corieltauvorum”, the Roman name for the city. The remains of the baths and pavements of Roman Leicester can be seen at and around the Jewry Wall; other Roman artefacts are displayed in the Jewry Wall Museum. Leicester’s city status was removed in the eleventh century and was only reinstated once more in 1919. Following this, St Martins Church was consecrated in 1927.

The introduction of both the railways and modern canal improvements rapidly launched Leicester into the Industrial Revolution and subsequently, it became a hub for shoe making and hosiery production. In 1936 Leicester was identified as the 2nd richest city in Europe and from there, industry and economic growth just kept on increasing. These days you can find some of the world’s biggest brands with a head office presence in the Roman city, corporations such as Next, Goldsmiths, Wal-Mart and DHL.

The National Space Centre is also located close to the city and this is reflected in Leicester’s reputation for scientific innovation. The University of Leicester is one of only a handful of universities that specialise in space sciences.

Leicester is also known for its arts and culture scene, with the city hosting the International Short Film Festival since its creation in 1996.

Sport is a huge part of city life for Leicester, with the Leicester Tigers playing at Welford Road. The Tigers are one of rugby’s most successful clubs, winning nine Premierships and two European Cups. Leicester City Football Club play out of the King Power Stadium whilst Leicestershire County Cricket Club are also based in the city.
