Becoming very windy with a band of briefly heavy rain moving quickly eastwards during the early evening. Clearing to gales and scattered showers across eastern parts late-evening onwards, but further persistent rain affecting the west, this sleety over the Pennines. Minimum Temperature 4C.

Sunday:

A chilly morning with gales and scattered rain/sleet showers in the west, whilst brighter and drier in the east. Winds easing slightly late afternoon with cloud perhaps thickening a little. Maximum Temperature 7C.

Outlook for Monday to Wednesday:

Remaining cold and often breezy with sunshine and scattered wintry showers. These giving snow accumulations over the Pennines, and perhaps temporarily to lower levels. Some overnight frost and icy patches.

Very windy with gales for many, locally severe across Northern Ireland and southern Scotland. Rain moving east across the UK, but more persistent in the northwest where also the heaviest. Clearer, colder, showery conditions spreading from the west later.

Sunday:

Gales continuing at first, but winds easing through the day. Sunshine and blustery showers, heaviest and increasingly wintry in northwest. A spell of heavy rain moving across the south later.

Outlook for Monday to Wednesday:

Windy, perhaps gales in places through Monday and Tuesday, with wintry showers, becoming more persistent at times in the northwest. Turning drier from the west on Wednesday.

Outlook for the UK over the next 6-30 days

UK Outlook for Thursday 5 Mar 2015 to Saturday 14 Mar 2015:

It should be cold and bright at first on Thursday, then whilst it will likely stay dry and sunny across southern and eastern parts; cloud, rain and strong winds should move into the far northwest. This will slowly sink southeast,later on Thursday and through Friday. It should then become drier and less windy, although further rain is possible in the northwest later on Friday. More changeable conditions with variable cloud and occasional outbreaks of rain or drizzle likely follow over the weekend. Drier conditions look to become more prevalent in the following week with temperatures close to, or slightly above average by day, but with some cold nights in contrast. There could be some cloudier interludes with rain at times, mainly in the northwest.

UK Outlook for Sunday 15 Mar 2015 to Sunday 29 Mar 2015:

In the second half of March it looks probable that there will be higher than average pressure across the whole UK at first, but that this effect would weaken and become more focussed over and to the south of the UK by the end of the period. This would bring generally drier conditions, but it is likely that there would be some cloud at times, with some occasional rain or showers particularly across the north. However, the chance of any prolonged wet and windy weather is fairly small. Temperatures will most likely to be close to average, perhaps slightly below average in the southwest, perhaps bringing some cold nights with the risk of overnight frosts, and maybe with some overnight mist or fog.
