The cloudy conditions continuing overnight, with outbreaks of rain becoming more widespread from the west after midnight, perhaps with the odd heavier burst. Southwesterly winds will also strengthen. Minimum Temperature 4C.

Wednesday:

Soon turning much colder, with strong winds giving a significant wind-chill. Sunny intervals, in between blustery showers, these turning to snow by afternoon, with some accumulations even at low level. Maximum Temperature 5C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

The cold and often windy conditions persisting, and giving a significant wind-chill. A mix of sunny intervals and wintry showers, with further accumulating snow expected, more especially on hills.

Outbreaks of rain across northwest Scotland slowly spreading southeastwards to affect most parts of the UK. Turning colder in the northwest with wintry showers. Windy, with gales in the north.

Wednesday:

Rain clearing the south through the morning. Elsewhere, bright and cold with scattered wintry showers. Snow showers turning heavy across the north later on. Windy in the north and west.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Cold on Thursday with frequent snow showers. Unsettled through Friday with further wintry showers, before turning colder again on Saturday with frequent snow showers. Strong to gales force winds throughout.

Outlook for the UK over the next 6-30 days

UK Outlook for Saturday 31 Jan 2015 to Monday 9 Feb 2015:

The cold and showery theme to the weather will persist through the weekend as northerly winds bring hail, sleet and snow showers to the country, these frequent across northern parts, with overnight frost and ice. The strong northerly winds, with gales in places, will accentuate the cold with a significant wind chill. The best of the drier, brighter weather will be across sheltered southern parts. These conditions will likely last into the first week of February, but there are signs of more changeable weather by the end of the forecast period as winds turn more westerly. By then, spells of wind and rain coming in off the Atlantic would mean that temperatures may return to nearer normal values and thus the likelihood of snow, frost and ice would be lower.

UK Outlook for Tuesday 10 Feb 2015 to Tuesday 24 Feb 2015:

It looks most likely that unsettled conditions will continue across much of the UK with temperatures closer to normal when compared to the start of February. This may be more obvious across parts of southern and western Britain where it might be a little wetter than average as spells of wind and rain make their way in from the Atlantic. However, there is the possibility of pressure building around the middle of the month bringing more settled conditions, particularly in the south.
