North East England weather forecast

Headline:

Wednesday windy with blustery showers, brighter later with sunny spells.

This Evening and Tonight:

Isolated blustery sharp showers continuing, wintry on hills, merging to a longer spell of rain around the middle of the night. Drier but increasingly windy during the early hours, particularly near coasts. Chilly generally, with inland rural frost in shelter. Minimum temperature -2 °C.

Wednesday:

Bright but blustery initially, with sharp showers and coastal gales. Both the showers and the wind should ease later, with increasing sunny spells. Rather cool, especially so in the wind. Maximum temperature 10 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Gradually becoming more settled. Thursday starting fine, wetter and windier later. Friday then bright and breezy ahead of some fine weather Saturday. Temperatures recovering generally, although some chilly starts expected.

Updated:

UK long range weather forecast

High pressure should ensure a fine and dry day for most of the UK on Sunday, and in any sunshine and light winds it should feel warm. Perhaps cloudier across some northern and eastern areas where the odd spot of rain or shower is possible, although these should be light. Into next week the high is likely to withdraw to the west a little, and this will open the door to cooler and less settled conditions, with some rain or showers mainly affecting the north and east, with the best chance of staying dry across western and southern parts. After a brief warmer interlude on Sunday temperatures are likely to trend back toward or a little below average,

Updated:

Around the turn of the month high pressure will probably remain close to the UK, with a good deal of dry weather continuing for many areas. As we move further into May signals are finely balanced between drier than average and wetter than average conditions. As such fairly typical conditions are likely, with some good spells of dry weather just about anywhere, but also some more unsettled, showery interludes. Temperatures are likely to trend toward the warm side of average.
