Today:

Bright and cold with occasional showers, wintry on high ground with some accumulations, although these tending to become less widespread in the afternoon with more in the way of dry weather. Fresh to strong northwesterly winds, early gales northwestern coasts. Maximum Temperature 6C.

Tonight:

Clear intervals and a few showers this evening then becoming cloudy with some more persistent rain reaching the Isles and West Highlands tonight. Sheltered east mainly dry. Windy, milder later. Minimum Temperature 2C.

Tuesday:

Occasional rain in west, persistent in West Highlands and becoming heavier later. East mainly dry, some brighter spells around the Moray Firth. Quite mild, fresh to strong southwesterly winds. Maximum Temperature 9C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Becoming colder again on Wednesday and Thursday with snow showers to low levels, moderate falls, heavy on hills. Wintry showers on Friday, though probably rain at lowest levels. Occasional gales.

Today:

Rain across central England and Wales will clear southeast through the morning, then it will be mainly dry with sunny spells. However, there will be scattered showers in the north, these wintry in far north where also heavy at times.

Tonight:

Cloudy and breezy in the north with showers giving way to outbreaks of rain across northwest Scotland. Dry and chilly elsewhere with a local frost, mainly in the south.

Tuesday:

Cloudy across most parts, but with some brighter spells across the south. Occasional outbreaks of light rain across northwest Scotland will turn heavier and more persistent later on. Becoming breezier.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

A band of rain pushing southeast Wednesday introducing increasingly cold conditions through Thursday and Friday. Wintry showers over most parts, with snow likely accumulating, especially at higher levels. Very windy.

Outlook for the UK over the next 6-30 days

UK Outlook for Saturday 31 Jan 2015 to Monday 9 Feb 2015:

The cold and showery theme to the weather will persist through the weekend as northerly winds bring hail, sleet and snow showers to the country, these frequent across northern parts, with overnight frost and ice. The strong northerly winds, with gales in places, will accentuate the cold with a significant wind chill. The best of the drier, brighter weather will be across sheltered southern parts. These conditions will likely last into the first week of February, but there are signs of more changeable weather by the end of the forecast period as winds turn more westerly. By then, spells of wind and rain coming in off the Atlantic would mean that temperatures may return to nearer normal values and thus the likelihood of snow, frost and ice would be lower.

UK Outlook for Tuesday 10 Feb 2015 to Tuesday 24 Feb 2015:

It looks most likely that unsettled conditions will continue across much of the UK with temperatures closer to normal when compared to the start of February. This may be more obvious across parts of southern and western Britain where it might be a little wetter than average as spells of wind and rain make their way in from the Atlantic. However, there is the possibility of pressure building around the middle of the month bringing more settled conditions, particularly in the south.
