Regional forecast for South West England

Windy and cloudy in the west, brighter further east.

    Today:

Today will be windy and rather cloudy in Cornwall and west Devon. However, further east, after morning frost, the day will be fine and dry with sunshine. The sun will become more diffuse later as high cloud moves across. Maximum Temperature 9 °C.

    Tonight:

A cloudless evening will cause frost to develop in the east at first. Thick cloud will roll in later, banishing most of the frost, and leading to fog on hills. Minimum Temperature -3 °C.

    Monday:

Tomorrow will be milder for most and less windy, but rather cloudy and grey. Fog will persist over the hills. It will stay cold in the north-east of the region. Maximum Temperature 12 °C.

    Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

The next few days will see a change to milder weather, with rain, drizzle and stronger winds at times. We will have frost-free nights.

UK forecast for the next 5 days

    Sunny, dry and rather cold.

    Today:

After a frosty start, today will be fine and dry for most of us, with plenty of long sunny spells. It will be windy in the southwest, and there will be more cloud in parts of eastern England.

    Tonight:

A cold cloudless night for many, will allow frost to develop widely, with some fog patches too. Thick cloud in south-west England and south Wales will curtail frost there.

    Monday:

After a frosty start, Scotland and northern England will have another dry, cold and bright day. However, it will be milder, but rather cloudy and grey further south and west.

    Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

The next few days will see milder weather, with rain and strong winds at times, particularly in the north and west. South-east England is likely to stay dry until Thursday.

Outlook for the UK over the next 6-30 days

UK Outlook for Friday 9 Dec 2016 to Sunday 18 Dec 2016:

After a bright start in the north/north-east on Friday, it is likely to turn cloudier as rain and strong winds spread from the west across all parts. The rain may linger in the south next Saturday but it should be drier and brighter in the north. There are then likely to be further periods of wet and windy weather through the following week. The most unsettled conditions are expected in the north-west with drier and brighter weather for southern and eastern areas. The somewhat changeable weather is then likely to be replaced by more settled conditions by the end of the period. Temperatures are also likely to return closer to normal for the middle of December, after something of a milder period.

UK Outlook for Monday 19 Dec 2016 to Monday 2 Jan 2017:

Whilst there is some uncertainty, it is most likely that high pressure is going to build through the second half of December, and so the weather should be more settled across the UK. If the pressure does build, then we can expect drier than average conditions for most areas with lighter winds. Temperatures are also then likely to be below average with an increased risk of frost and fog, especially where skies remain clear overnight. There is the potential for some more unsettled periods, but these look less likely.
