    Regional forecast for Wales

Rain clearing eastwards, leaving a much brighter afternoon.

    Today:

Cloudy with outbreaks of locally heavy rain through the morning, but this should gradually pull away to the east, leaving much brighter conditions for much of the afternoon. Fairly mild once again, especially at first. Maximum Temperature 15C.

    Tonight:

Mainly dry, with some lengthy clear periods at first, allowing it to turn chilly in sheltered rural areas. A few showers returning from the west through the early hours. Minimum Temperature 5C.

    Saturday:

Some sunny spells, especially east of high ground, but also the risk of a few showers. Generally on the mild side, but breezy in the north. Maximum Temperature 15C.

    Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Breezy and often rather cloudy with a few showers on Sunday and Monday. More organised rain will arrive from the northwest on Tuesday, but with winds falling lighter.

Issued at: 0500 on Fri 24 Oct 2014

UK forecast for the next 5 days

Rain clearing from the southeast. Blustery showers in the northwest.

    Today:

Cloudy with bands of locally heavy rain across much of England and Wales, clearing erratically from the southeast by evening. Clearer conditions following on, but plenty of showers in the far northwest, where also very windy.

    Tonight:

Frequent showers continuing across the northwest, rattling through on strong southwesterly winds. Elsewhere, mainly dry, with some clear spells, especially across central and eastern areas.

    Saturday:

Showers, driven on by strong to gale force winds, will continue to affect western Scotland. Less windy and showery elsewhere, with the best of the sunshine across eastern areas.

    Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Very wet and windy in the northwest on Sunday and Monday, with rain then spreading southeastwards on Tuesday. Drier further to the south, though some drizzly outbreaks are possible. Mild.

Outlook for the UK over the next 6-30 days

UK Outlook for Wednesday 29 Oct 2014 to Friday 7 Nov 2014:

A slow moving band of rain over the central parts on Wednesday is expected to slowly weaken. To the north, largely fine with sunny spells after a chilly start. Dull, damp and mild to the south with occasional drizzle. Brighter across southern parts on Thursday with sunny spells. However, rain and strong winds are likely to extend into northwestern areas, before reaching central parts by the end of the day. A north-south split looks most likely to predominate thereafter with the most frequent bouts of wind and rain likely in the north and northwest, with the best of the drier weather in the south and southeast; although there is likely to be some rain here at times. Temperatures generally near normal, although feeling cold in strong winds and rain.

UK Outlook for Saturday 8 Nov 2014 to Saturday 22 Nov 2014:

The main signal is for a continuation of a north-south split during the second week of November. During this period, the generally westerly flow is likely to bring spells of wet and windy weather, mostly affecting northern and some western areas, but perhaps reaching other areas as well, this interspersed with drier intervals. However, southern and some eastern areas will probably see more in the way of drier and settled conditions increasing the likelihood of some sunshine, but also the risk of frost, mist and fog overnight, the latter of which could be slow to clear. After this it looks like unsettled weather will spread to much of the UK. Daytime temperatures will probably be near or a little above normal, although feeling cooler during any wet and windy spells.
