There will be bright spells and showers today. Showers will be heavy and possibly thundery, merging to give more prolonged spells of rain, especially in the west at first, and east later. Very windy and gusty in the south again.
Blustery showers will continue across the north and northeast of Scotland overnight. Elsewhere it will become mostly dry with clear spells, and the gusty west to northwesterly wind will ease.
Remaining cool and windy in the far north with further showers, wintry on the hills. Most other areas will have a dry day with gentle winds and pleasantly warm sunshine.
Outlook for Friday to Sunday:
Friday will start mostly fine. Wet and locally windy weather looks set to gradually move northeastwards across all parts, clearing later Saturday. Further rain in northwest Sunday. Brighter elsewhere.

UK Outlook for Sunday 10 May 2015 to Tuesday 19 May 2015:
It will start dry and bright for many on Sunday, but cloud and outbreaks of rain are likely to spread across north-western parts through the day, accompanied by quite strong winds. Brighter conditions should continue further south and east, perhaps feeling quite warm here, with some sunny spells developing. It is then likely to become fairly unsettled through the following week, particularly in the north-west, with occasional spells of rain or showers, and some strong winds at times. Drier, brighter conditions are more likely towards the south-east, where it will feel somewhat warmer too. This pattern looks likely to continue through the weekend, but there is also a signal that more settled conditions will build across all parts of the UK.
UK Outlook for Wednesday 20 May 2015 to Wednesday 3 Jun 2015:
Overall, fairly mixed conditions are expected through the period, with many areas experiencing spells of fine and bright weather, interspersed with more changeable conditions. The most unsettled conditions are likely to be across northern and north-western areas at first, whilst the best of the settled weather is more likely towards the south and south-east. However, there is a signal for some drier conditions to develop across northern parts towards the end of May as well. Temperatures are likely to be near or just above average for most areas at first, with spells of more settled weather likely to be accompanied by higher daytime temperatures, particularly in the south or south-east. Some chilly nights are also likely, perhaps with isolated overnight frost, most likely in rural northern parts.
