    After a chilly dawn, today will be a cloudier day with some showers, these mainly in the east where they will be wintry over the hills. The best of the breaks in the cloud will be in western parts. Maximum Temperature 7°C.

    Tonight:

    There will be a good deal of cloud tonight with isolated wintry showers across the Pennines. Where cloud breaks, this most likely in the west, a patchy frost will develop. Minimum Temperature -1°C.

    Saturday:

    Many parts will see a dry, but chilly, day on Saturday with variable cloud and some bright or sunny spells. However, scattered wintry showers may encroach the Pennine areas. Maximum Temperature 6°C.

    Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

    Turning increasingly cold with sunny spells by day and widespread frosts overnight. However, brisk northeasterly winds will drive scattered snow showers into northern and eastern parts on Sunday and Monday.

    Today:

    An area of rain, sleet and snow will drift south across northern and eastern parts of Scotland. Elsewhere, there will be variable amounts of cloud, some sunny spells and a few showery outbreaks of rain, these wintry over the hills.

    Tonight:

    Wintry showers across eastern Scotland will spread into northeastern England, whilst rain spreads into southwest England and Northern Ireland. Elsewhere, clear spells allowing a patchy frost and isolated fog patches.

    Saturday:

    Wintry showers will continue to affect eastern Scotland and northeast England. Cloudy across southern parts with occasional rain, sleet and perhaps hill snow. Elsewhere, dry with sunny spells, but cold.

    Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

    Turning colder with overnight frosts, but also plenty of dry, bright weather by day. However, strong northeasterly winds will drive snow showers into northern and eastern parts Sunday and Monday.

    UK Outlook for Wednesday 17 Feb 2016 to Friday 26 Feb 2016:

    On Wednesday, rain, sleet and hill snow is expected to move out of Scotland and Northern Ireland and into the north and west of England and Wales. Towards the southeast of England, dry and bright with frost and fog patches. Becoming bright and breezy across Scotland and Northern Ireland, with sunshine and wintry showers. On Thursday, the band of rain, and perhaps snow, is expected to move into southeast England as a weakening feature. After a frosty start, a mix of sunshine and wintry showers is expected elsewhere. Thereafter, the weather looks set to remain rather cold and changeable. Some wet and windy weather at times, but also some frosty conditions too between weather systems. Cold enough for snow at times, though mainly on higher ground and in the north.

    UK Outlook for Saturday 27 Feb 2016 to Saturday 12 Mar 2016:

    A continuation of rather cold and changeable weather looks the most likely trend at this stage, with winds predominantly blowing from the west or northwest. Probably wettest and windiest in the north, with a greater likelihood of longer settled periods of weather in the south. Temperatures probably averaging out at near or just below the seasonal norm.
