    A rather cloudy start with outbreaks of heavy, perhaps thundery, showery rain. However it becomes brighter through the morning with some sunny spells developing, although the odd heavy shower is still likely. Occasionally strong southwesterly winds. Maximum Temperature 18 °C.

    Tonight:

    A mix of clear spells and showers through the evening and overnight, the showers most frequent across Argyll with the longer clear spells for Lanarkshire. Occasionally strong westerly winds. Minimum Temperature 8 °C.

    Saturday:

    A bright day with a mix of sunny spells and occasionally heavy showers. However the showers will tend to die out during the afternoon with the westerly breeze easing. Maximum Temperature 17 °C.

    Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

    Mainly dry and bright on Sunday but cloud increasing later. Monday and Tuesday look unsettled with showers or longer spells of rain.

    Rain in the far north today. Sunshine and showers elsewhere.

    Today:

    Rain moving northeastwards across Scotland, turning heavy at times. Sunny spells and showers elsewhere, with hail and thunder possible. However, more organised rain reaching Wales later in the afternoon, continuing to spread eastwards thereafter. Windy, especially in the west.

    Tonight:

    Rain clearing both Scotland and parts of England during the evening, leaving a mix of clear spells and occasional showers, mostly confined to the north and west. Winds easing inland.

    Saturday:

    Sunshine and blustery showers for northern and western parts, though showers becoming more isolated through the day. Largely dry elsewhere with some sun, although turning cloudy in the southwest later.

    Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

    Rain spreading northeastwards on Sunday, turning heavy over western hills. Dry and bright across southeastern parts Monday, but rain erratically moving southeastwards through the day. Staying unsettled for some Tuesday.

    UK Outlook for Wednesday 23 Aug 2017 to Friday 1 Sep 2017:

    Wednesday is likely to see a mixture of sunshine and showers, with winds become quite strong in the north and east. Thursday should then see the showers become restricted to the north, with some sunshine elsewhere. Through the rest of next week, it is likely to be rather changeable in the north with spells of rain, but further south may stay drier and more settled initially, before the changeable weather in the north become more widespread. For the rest of the period, it is most likely that many areas will see spells of cloud and rain at times, interspersed with a few days of brighter, showery conditions. Temperatures look set to be around average for the time of year, although it could turn warm in the south at times.

    As we head into September, we are most likely to see changeable weather conditions dominating across the UK. However, there is a chance of some more prolonged dry and fine weather at times too. As a result, on balance there are likely to be spells of rain and strong winds at times, especially across the north and west, probably interspersed with several days of brighter and showery weather. Temperatures may become warm or very warm at times, especially in the south. However, they will probably remain generally close to normal for the time of year elsewhere.
