    A frosty start with a few patches of fog around. Otherwise, a dry start with some bright spells in the morning, mainly across Berwickshire, but turning cloudier from the west. Some rain with strengthening southerly winds across Galloway later. Maximum Temperature 8 °C.


    Outbreaks of rain will spread east through the evening. Rain becoming light and patchy overnight and mainly confined to the Southern Uplands. Turning milder with freshening southerly winds. Minimum Temperature 6 °C.


    Occasional light rain will mainly affect the Dumfries and Galloway hills. Drier across Lothian and Borders. A much milder day compared to recently with fresh to strong southwesterly winds. Maximum Temperature 14 °C.

    Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

    Mostly dry and bright Thursday, scattered showers in the west. Rain spreading east on Friday. Some showers in the west on Saturday but dry and bright in the east.

    UK forecast for the next 5 days

    Dull and cloudy with some rain in the north-west.


    After a bright start for Scotland, cloud and rain will spread into western parts as winds strengthen. Elsewhere overcast but dry with early fog patches slow to clear. Some brightness in north-east Scotland. Feeling less cold than recent days.


    Staying cloudy overnight and dry with some clear spells for northern England and Wales. Rain and strong winds continue to affect Northern Ireland and Scotland. Staying frost free for many.


    Outbreaks of rain will erratically spread southwards, although many will remain dry. Remaining cloudy, with some sunshine developing through the afternoon for central England. Windy in north. Mild for all.

    Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

    Remaining unsettled with outbreaks of rain at times, mainly in the north and west, where it will also be windy. Drier and bright interludes are likely, particularly on Saturday. Mild.

    Outlook for the UK over the next 6-30 days

    UK Outlook for Saturday 10 Dec 2016 to Monday 19 Dec 2016:

    It is likely to be cloudy with spells of rain across southern and south-eastern parts of the UK on Saturday. The rest of the UK should be brighter with blustery showers. During the rest of the weekend and into the following week, further periods of wet and windy weather are expected to move across the UK. The most unsettled conditions are likely across the north and west with drier and brighter weather for southern and eastern areas. By mid December there should be some longer, drier spells between the wet weather, with a gradual change to something a little more settled. It will also be fairly mild initially but temperatures are likely to return closer to normal, with an increasing risk of overnight frost.

    UK Outlook for Tuesday 20 Dec 2016 to Tuesday 3 Jan 2017:

    Whilst there is a good deal of uncertainty, it is most likely that high pressure is going to become more dominant through the end of December, and so the weather should be more settled across the UK. If the pressure does build, then we can expect drier than average conditions for most areas with lighter winds. Temperatures are also then likely to be below average with an increased risk of frost and fog, especially where skies remain clear overnight. As we head into the New Year there is the potential for the weather to become more unsettled again.
