Regional forecast for North West England

Largely fine, although cloud increasing through the day.

    Today:

A fine start to the weekend with plenty of sunshine, although this will slowly turn hazy during the day as cloud builds from the south. Feeling warm in the sunshine and light winds. Maximum Temperature 23 °C.

    Tonight:

Cloud will be thick enough to produce scattered showers by the evening and these will become more widespread during the night, giving some heavy and locally thundery rain in places. Minimum Temperature 13 °C.

    Sunday:

Sunday will start cloudy and damp with further showers, but these will tend to ease allowing some sunny spells to develop later, with just the odd shower likely. Maximum Temperature 21 °C.

    Outlook for Monday to Wednesday:

Dry on Monday with sunny spells. Cloudier on Tuesday but remaining largely dry, aside for some drizzle over higher ground. Wednesday looks breezier with some rain, although perhaps brighter later.

UK forecast for the next 5 days

Heavy rain for some, otherwise dry with sunny breaks.

    Today:

Outbreaks of rain, often heavy, will move across southern and central parts of England through the day, reaching Wales later. Otherwise it will remain generally dry with warm spells of sunshine, although Scotland may see the odd shower at times.

    Tonight:

Rain spreading into northern parts of Wales and England will become heavy in places whilst showers persist across northern Scotland. Another muggy night in the south with some showers.

    Sunday:

After a cloudy and wet start for some, rain will gradually ease to leave a mixture of sunny spells and showers for most, these heaviest in central and southern England.

    Outlook for Monday to Wednesday:

An improvement on Monday as showers fade, leaving sunny breaks. Mainly dry on Tuesday before rain spreads into the north and west on Wednesday, but staying fine and dry elsewhere.

Outlook for the UK over the next 6-30 days

UK Outlook for Thursday 1 Sep 2016 to Saturday 10 Sep 2016:

Thursday is likely to be dry for many, apart from a few showers in the northwest, and a band of patchy rain across parts of Wales and central England. This weakening band of rain will gradually move southeastwards on Friday, but at the same time another band of rain will move in from the northwest, which will be accompanied by some strong winds. Thereafter the changeable pattern is likely to continue, with showers or longer spells of rain, interspersed by some drier and brighter periods. The wettest and windiest weather is likely across the northwest, although there is a low risk of thundery showers occasionally affecting the south. Temperatures, generally near or a little above normal, although there is the chance of some warmer spells, especially in the southeast.

UK Outlook for Sunday 11 Sep 2016 to Sunday 25 Sep 2016:

There is some doubt in the detail of the forecast for this period, but the most likely scenario is for westerly or southwesterly winds to dominate. This will bring changeable weather, with showers or longer spells of rain interspersed by some dry and bright periods. The heaviest and most persistent rain is expected to occur in the north and west, where it could also be windy at times. The best of the brighter weather probably occurring in the south and east. A trend towards drier and more settled conditions looks more possible during the second half of September. Temperatures through this period are likely to be generally above average, with any colder spells being transient.
