Mostly sunny after inland frost and freezing fog patches.

Dry with long sunny periods after early inland frost and patchy fog slowly clears. Inland areas will remain cold, despite the sunshine, compared to milder coastal areas where the highest temperatures will occur. Later, low cloud may spread northwards. Maximum Temperature 9 °C.

Some places, especially northern locations, may start clear with temperatures quickly falling. However, a mix of low cloud and fog may extend northwards to cover much of the region. Minimum Temperature -2 °C.

Some bright spells may occur, most likely across eastern areas, but generally it will be dull with a mixture of mist, low cloud and hill fog, also early fog. Maximum Temperature 7 °C.

    Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Generally cloudy with a chance of rain at times, especially across the Pennines. It will also be windy Wednesday, slightly less so Thursday and Friday, and becoming noticeably milder.

UK forecast for the next 5 days

Dry, not as cold but some dense fog forming.

    This Evening and Tonight:

Low cloud and fog will become widespread across much of England and parts of Wales but it will be clearer across Scotland with a frost and some fog patches. Breezier with a little light rain across Northern Ireland.

Wet and windy weather will spread across Northern Ireland and western Scotland, otherwise it will be dry across the UK. Cloudier though with some persistent fog and a chilly feel.

    Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Milder for all with spells of wet and windy weather; the heaviest rain across the northwest of the UK. A drier spell of weather for most on Thursday though.

Outlook for the UK over the next 6-30 days

UK Outlook for Saturday 10 Dec 2016 to Monday 19 Dec 2016:

It is likely to be cloudy with spells of rain across southern and south-eastern parts of the UK on Saturday. The rest of the UK should be brighter with blustery showers. During the rest of the weekend and into the following week, further periods of wet and windy weather are expected to move across the UK. The most unsettled conditions are likely across the north and west with drier and brighter weather for southern and eastern areas. By mid December there should be some longer, drier spells between the wet weather, with a gradual change to something a little more settled. It will also be fairly mild initially but temperatures are likely to return closer to normal, with an increasing risk of overnight frost.

UK Outlook for Tuesday 20 Dec 2016 to Tuesday 3 Jan 2017:

Whilst there is a good deal of uncertainty, it is most likely that high pressure is going to become more dominant through the end of December, and so the weather should be more settled across the UK. If the pressure does build, then we can expect drier than average conditions for most areas with lighter winds. Temperatures are also then likely to be below average with an increased risk of frost and fog, especially where skies remain clear overnight. As we head into the New Year there is the potential for the weather to become more unsettled again.
