Dry at first, then becoming windy as rain spreads northeastwards.

The rain will continue through the night, and will turn heavy at times. Winds will remain strong, particularly at the coast, but will gradually ease from the early hours. Minimum Temperature 4C.

The rain will gradually become patchier and lighter as it clears to the northeast, and most parts will become dry by mid-afternoon with bright spells. Winds will continue to ease. Maximum Temperature 12C.

    Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Rain affecting the southeast of the region at first on Sunday, then clearing leaving it dry but chilly on Monday. Rain likely returning as it moves northwestwards on Tuesday.

Issued at: 0400 on Fri 21 Nov 2014

UK forecast for the next 5 days

Cloudy at first, then becoming windy as rain spreads northeastwards.

Rather cloudy for most, but still with some fog at first in the north. It will become windy in the north and west. Rain will move erratically northeastwards across most parts, although some parts of the northeast will stay dry.

The rain will turn heavy at times and continue northeastwards, reaching into other areas. It will stay wet over western parts, but the southeast will likely see the driest conditions.

The rain will clear to the northeast, and winds will ease. However, it will remain wet and windy in the Northern Isles. Further rain will arrive in the south later.

    Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Rain affecting the southeast on Sunday, perhaps clearing for a time on Monday, then likely returning northwestwards on Tuesday. Otherwise showers in the northwest, and drier elsewhere.

Issued at: 0400 on Fri 21 Nov 2014

Outlook for the UK over the next 6-30 days

UK Outlook for Tuesday 25 Nov 2014 to Thursday 4 Dec 2014:

Tuesday and into Wednesday, high pressure will gradually decline and unsettled weather is likely to return over western parts with spells of rain and strengthening winds, perhaps to gale force over northwestern parts later. Eastern areas are most likely to see the best of any drier and brighter weather, with the risk of overnight frost and fog under clear spells. The unsettled conditions are likely to spread to all parts from Thursday onwards, with the heaviest rain and strongest winds most likely to affect western areas. Eastern areas are likely to see the best of any drier interludes. Temperatures will mostly be around normal for the time of year, with some chilly starts and occasional overnight frost.

UK Outlook for Friday 5 Dec 2014 to Friday 19 Dec 2014:

The most probable scenario is for a continuation of a mobile westerly flow bringing unsettled and windy weather, especially in western parts of the UK, with eastern parts seeing the best of any dry weather. Temperatures are generally expected to be around or a little above average for the time of year. There is a chance of some overnight and morning frost and fog in places - this will be more likely across northern areas where there is also a chance of some snow on higher ground.
