    Tonight:

    Heavy showers continuing this evening before dying away overnight to leave mostly dry conditions with clear spells. Gale force northwesterly winds will gradually ease overnight to a fresh southwesterly. Minimum Temperature 2C.

    Wednesday:

    A dry and bright start but soon clouding over from the west with outbreaks of rain, this heavy and persistent across Skye, Lochaber and west. Mild with strengthening southwesterly winds. Maximum Temperature 13C.

    Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

    Bright with rain then showers on Thursday with strong winds. Bright and breezy with showers, some heavy, on Friday and Saturday but drier in the east.

    Rain clearing southeast, then sunny spells and squally showers. Gales.

    Today:

    Gales with severe gales around exposed coasts. The rain from overnight soon clears southeast, then colder conditions with squally showers and a risk of hail and thunder spread across the UK. Showers become wintry over the hills in the northwest.

    Tonight:

    Showers becoming more isolated overnight, with clear skies developing across much of the UK. Cold with a grass frost possible in places. Further rain in the far northwest by dawn.

    Wednesday:

    Becoming cloudy across the UK but with rain moving east across northern parts. Staying dry in the south. Milder than on Tuesday. Windy for all with gales in the north.

    Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

    Less windy with rain in western parts Thursday and some more widespread rain over England and Wales Friday. A brighter day here Saturday. Windy with blustery showers throughout in northwest.

    Outlook for the UK over the next 6-30 days

    UK Outlook for Sunday 26 Oct 2014 to Tuesday 4 Nov 2014:

    Showery and very windy across northern areas on Sunday and Monday, with a risk of severe gales for a time. Somewhat less windy further to the south, though with increasing amounts of cloud. Into the midweek period, a north-south split looks most probable, with windy and often unsettled conditions continuing in the north and somewhat quieter, drier weather in the south. Temperatures will generally be near normal, although feeling quite cold in the strong winds. Towards the end of October and into early November, the broad north-south split looks set to continue, with northern areas remaining changeable and at times unsettled. Further south, there are hints that pressure may start to rise, increasing the potential for more prolonged drier periods, but with a greater risk of overnight frost and fog.

    UK Outlook for Wednesday 5 Nov 2014 to Wednesday 19 Nov 2014:

    The main signal is for a continuation of a north-south split during the first half of November. During this period, the generally westerly flow is likely to bring spells of wet and windy weather, interspersed with drier intervals. These should mostly affect northern and some western areas, but perhaps reaching other areas as well at times. However southern and some eastern areas will probably see more in the way of the drier and settled conditions increasing the likelihood of seeing some sunshine, but also the risk of frost, mist and fog overnight, the latter of which could be slow to clear. Daytime temperatures are likely to be near or a little above normal, although feeling cooler during any wet and windy spells.
