UK forecast for the next 5 days

    Sunny, dry and rather cold.

    Today:

After a frosty start, today will be fine and dry for most of us, with plenty of long sunny spells. It will be windy in the southwest, and there will be more cloud in parts of eastern England.

    Tonight:

A cold cloudless night for many, will allow frost to develop widely, with some fog patches too. Thick cloud in south-west England and south Wales will curtail frost there.

    Monday:

After a frosty start, Scotland and northern England will have another dry, cold and bright day. However, it will be milder, but rather cloudy and grey further south and west.

    Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

The next few days will see milder weather, with rain and strong winds at times, particularly in the north and west. South-east England is likely to stay dry until Thursday.

Outlook for the UK over the next 6-30 days

UK Outlook for Thursday 8 Dec 2016 to Saturday 17 Dec 2016:

It will be windy on Thursday, though southern and eastern parts will see a mostly dry day with some brightness later. However, further heavy rain will spread into northern and western counties later in the day, extending across most of the UK through Friday. South-eastern parts are likely to see only small amounts of rainfall but it will become significantly milder across the country with much less frost than recently. This milder, wetter and windier theme is likely to continue into the next week, but in general, the winds will be stronger and the rain will be heavier in the north-west of the UK, whereas south-eastern counties will stay drier and quieter on the whole. However, there are signs that it could perhaps become less unsettled later in the period.

UK Outlook for Sunday 18 Dec 2016 to Sunday 1 Jan 2017:

A rather changeable start to the period looks most likely with some spells of rain and strong winds interspersed with drier interludes. More settled weather may return as high pressure builds through the second half of December, and re-establishes more widely across the UK. However, this build of pressure is quite uncertain. If it happens, it would bring drier than average conditions again for most areas with lighter winds and an increased risk of local frost and fog, especially where skies remain clear overnight. On balance, unsettled spells look slightly less likely and temperatures will probably be generally colder than average.
