    Rain band moving east then brighter, blustery showers, strengthening winds


    Cloudy, misty start with occasional rain soon clearing to drier, brighter weather. Blustery showers following to Western Isles and Northwest Highlands, but mainly dry elsewhere. Strengthening southwesterly winds with gales developing over Hebrides and Skye. Maximum Temperature 17 °C.


    Blustery showers this evening, mainly in west but a few reaching Inverness. Strong to gale southwesterly winds, perhaps severe in far northwest, these easing overnight. Minimum Temperature 9 °C.


    A mainly dry start then some rain spreading from west, some heavy, and more persistent over the West Highlands. Lighter winds in north but a strong southwesterly later in Lochaber. Maximum Temperature 17 °C.

    Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

    Thursday and Friday bright and showery with strong winds, gales possible at first on Thursday. Fewer showers and more in the way of sunshine on Saturday.

    Some brightness today but further rain expected.


    It'll be a grey and damp start to the day for most with patchy light rain and drizzle. Brighter conditions will move in from the northwest through the day with some sunshine but it'll be windy in the north.


    It will stay windy in the north tonight with showers here. It'll be a dry night for most with clear spells but rain will move into Northern Ireland later.


    Wednesday will start dry and bright for most. Rain, heavy at times, and strong winds will affect northern and western parts especially. It will feel very warm in the southeast.

    Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

    Cloud and outbreaks of rain will slowly clear the south on Thursday with blustery showers elsewhere. Friday and Saturday will have sunshine and blustery showers, with thunder likely in northwest.

    UK Outlook for Sunday 2 Oct 2016 to Tuesday 11 Oct 2016:

    Generally a brighter end to the weekend, with sunshine and a few showers on Sunday and lighter winds, though becoming cloudier and windier later as outbreaks of rain spread in from the west during the start of the week. Changeable conditions are then expected to continue through the remainder of the period bringing showers or longer spells of rain interspersed by drier and brighter periods. The heaviest and most persistent rain along with the stronger winds are likely to occur in the west and northwest, whereas eastern and southeastern parts should see more prolonged drier and brighter spells. Temperatures near normal at first, though soon rising to slightly above average and perhaps even warm at times in the southeast.

    There is currently low confidence for the forecast during the second half of October, however the most likely scenario is a continuation of the more changeable conditions. The north and northwest is likely to see the most unsettled weather, with strong winds and showers or longer spells of rain, intermixed with some drier interludes. Further south and southeast there is a greater likelihood of drier, brighter weather with a low possibility of more prolonged settled spells here. Temperatures will vary through the period, but probably averaging out slight above average for the time of year, with an increasing risk of overnight frost in the more settled spells.
