    A dry start evening and start to the night for Shetland with some clear spells. There will be a few showers affecting Orkney and the odd one will extend to Shetland later tonight. Fresh southwest winds. Minimum Temperature 10 °C.


    A few showers at first, but otherwise a dry day with some good periods of sunshine. Southwesterly winds will ease slightly and back southerly in the afternoon. Maximum Temperature 15 °C.

    Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

    Heavy rain later on Tuesday. A further spell of heavy rain is likely on Wednesday. Brighter with blustery showers on Thursday. Windy few days with strong to gale force winds.

    Showers will continue in the north and west, heavy in places. It should become largely dry further southeast although showery rain and strengthening winds will soon arrive in far southwest and spread northeastwards overnight


    Outbreaks of rain will continue to spread northeastwards, turning most persistent and heavy in the southwest. Some southeastern parts and parts of Northern Ireland and northern Scotland will stay dry.

    Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

    Feeling autumnal this week. Frontal systems will progress eastwards bringing periods of wet and windy weather, especially in the north. Some dry spells too especially in the southeast.

    UK Outlook for Friday 30 Sep 2016 to Sunday 9 Oct 2016:

    Cool with sunshine and showers on Friday and Saturday with strong wind perhaps giving gales in the north or northwest with the showers most frequent here. There is low confidence by early next week but an unsettled pattern is most likely to continue, with spells of rain mixed with brighter, drier but occasional showery interludes. The northwest should see the most of the wet weather, with a risk of gales at times. Drier in southeastern parts, but some rain and breezy conditions are still possible. There is the slight chance that drier weather may spread to all parts for a few days from mid-week. Temperatures will vary but should average out to around normal for the time of year with some overnight frosts.
