Middlesbrough Weather Forecast

Middlesbrough is part of the area known as Teeside, which is itself a modern construct to recognise the conurbation formed from the towns of Middlesbrough, Stockton-on-Tees, Thornaby, Billigham and other surrounding settlements some 250 miles North of London and about 40 miles South East of Newcastle, on the River Tees, on the North Sea coast of England.

The area is low lying river plain bounded some way to the south by the rising North Yorkshire Moors National Park and further to the West by the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

The area was mainly agricultural until the 19th century, with the main local settlement, at the time being Stockton as the furthest navigable point on the river.

By 1828, shareholders from the world’s first railway, the Stockton and Darlington Railway Company together with individuals with local coal mining interests bought 527 acres of what was described as “dismal swamp”, to create a port, down river of Stockton that could take larger ships in order to export coal and import traded goods. This was so successful it was expanded by 1842 to create Middlesbrough Dock and the whole area continued to expand rapidly as a direct result of the Industrial Revolution.

It is still a heavily industrialised area that continues to change in the post industrialised economy.

Five day table

The five day forecast table provides a detailed view of the weather for the days ahead at Middlesbrough.

Our Air Quality Index is currently in Beta. It is a daily index representing the background and regional air quality for a chosen location. Air pollution levels close to roads in urban areas may be higher. For more information please visit our Daily Air Quality Index page.

The Timeline provides an alternative graphical representation of the five day forecast for a location. Forecasts for around 5000 UK locations can be viewed in this way. For each location we provide three-hourly forecasts of weather, temperature, wind speed and direction and feels like temperature.

Temperature range

The temperature range forecast is a relatively new way of displaying forecast information. Temperatures will fall within the indicated range roughly 9 times out of 10 with the most likely temperature shown in green. There may be variations between this product and the five day forecast. Five day forecasts of maximum and minimum temperature for around 5000 UK locations can be viewed in this way.
