Regional forecast for South West England

Today:

Skies will cloud over from the west, with outbreaks of rain and drizzle spreading east through the day. However, eastern parts will stay largely dry for much of the day with some sunny spells. Feeling cool under cloud and rain. Maximum Temperature 19 °C.

Tonight:

Rain will continue to move east, with some localised heavy bursts possible at first. Fog will form over the hills where the cloud thickens and it will turn more humid. Minimum Temperature 14 °C.

Monday:

Monday will start cloudy with some drizzle at first. However, it will turn drier through the day, with some warm bright spells possible by the afternoon. Maximum Temperature 23 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Dry Tuesday with sunny spells and feeling very warm and humid. Largely dry with some sunshine Wednesday and turning a little fresher, perhaps the odd shower. Sunshine and showers Thursday.

What are tides?

Tides refer to the rise and fall of a body of water, most commonly seen in the oceans; caused by the interaction between the moon, sun and Earth.

As the positions of Earth, sun and moon change in relation to each other, the gravitational pull and centrifugal forces acting upon the oceans vary and it is these differences that cause fluctuation in the height of the sea which we see at the tides going out and in.

In the UK we mostly experience a semi-diurnal tide which means we experience two high tides and two low tides each day. These occur approximately every 12 hours and 25 minutes.
