There will be some sunny or bright spells today and it will be dry for most of us, though there is also a chance of a few showers. Feeling a little milder than of late with light winds. Maximum Temperature 13 °C.

Tonight:

Mainly dry overnight though still with a small risk of a shower. Although there will be clear spells overnight any frost will be patchy and confined to rural areas. Minimum Temperature 3 °C.

Saturday:

Another largely dry day with bright or sunny spells though with the risk of an isolated shower. Feeling mild, however later on it will become breezier in the west. Maximum Temperature 14 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Breezy on Sunday with rain arriving from the southwest, this will clear to the northeast by Monday though further rain may arrive from the west by Tuesday.

What are tides?

Tides refer to the rise and fall of a body of water, most commonly seen in the oceans; caused by the interaction between the moon, sun and Earth.

As the positions of Earth, sun and moon change in relation to each other, the gravitational pull and centrifugal forces acting upon the oceans vary and it is these differences that cause fluctuation in the height of the sea which we see at the tides going out and in.

In the UK we mostly experience a semi-diurnal tide which means we experience two high tides and two low tides each day. These occur approximately every 12 hours and 25 minutes.
