Regional forecast for South West England

This Evening and Tonight:

This evening will be dry and mild. Light rain will arrive in Cornwall overnight and spread across the region, becoming heavier over the moors. Winds will strengthen and it will become murky with widespread low cloud, mist and hill fog. Minimum Temperature 13 °C.

Tuesday:

Early rain in the east will soon die away and the region is expected to be mainly dry, cloudy and breezy. It will be warm for the time of year. Maximum Temperature 18 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Wednesday will stay mild and cloudy with occasional drizzle, particularly near the south coast. Thursday may be brighter and drier. Friday will be dry and bright after any early rain.

What are tides?

Tides refer to the rise and fall of a body of water, most commonly seen in the oceans; caused by the interaction between the moon, sun and Earth.

As the positions of Earth, sun and moon change in relation to each other, the gravitational pull and centrifugal forces acting upon the oceans vary and it is these differences that cause fluctuation in the height of the sea which we see at the tides going out and in.

In the UK we mostly experience a semi-diurnal tide which means we experience two high tides and two low tides each day. These occur approximately every 12 hours and 25 minutes.
