Regional forecast for London & South East England

This Evening and Tonight:

Cold with further showers this evening and overnight, especially in the east. Some of the showers heavy, perhaps wintry on higher hills. Drier in the west but with a patchy frost possible in places sheltered from the strong northerly wind. Minimum Temperature 1 °C.

Wednesday:

Showers continuing through the day across the east where some will be heavy. The west seeing fewer showers with more in the way of sunshine. Less windy but still cold. Maximum Temperature 11 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Patchy rain pushing south Thursday. Sunshine a few showers Friday, then largely dry Saturday. Turning less cold and feeling quite pleasant in any sunshine, though still chilly overnight.

What are tides?

Tides refer to the rise and fall of a body of water, most commonly seen in the oceans; caused by the interaction between the moon, sun and Earth.

As the positions of Earth, sun and moon change in relation to each other, the gravitational pull and centrifugal forces acting upon the oceans vary and it is these differences that cause fluctuation in the height of the sea which we see at the tides going out and in.

In the UK we mostly experience a semi-diurnal tide which means we experience two high tides and two low tides each day. These occur approximately every 12 hours and 25 minutes.
