Regional forecast for London & South East England

Today:

Frosty start with any areas of mist, fog and low cloud slowly lifting. Many places staying rather cold with sunny spells, especially across Kent, Surrey and Sussex. Highest temperatures will be along the south coast. Maximum Temperature 9 °C.

Tonight:

Early frost will develop where cloud breaks initially occur, most likely across eastern areas. Then low cloud or fog, also hill fog, will become extensive, so preventing a widespread frost. Minimum Temperature -1 °C.

Tuesday:

Mainly dull and overcast, with a mixture of mist, low cloud, hill fog and also early low level fog. Feeling rather cold for many inland places, highest temperatures south coast. Maximum Temperature 12 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Generally rather cloudy, with limited brightness, but also dry and becoming noticeably milder. There is a chance of a little drizzle at times, mainly Thursday.

What are tides?

Tides refer to the rise and fall of a body of water, most commonly seen in the oceans; caused by the interaction between the moon, sun and Earth.

As the positions of Earth, sun and moon change in relation to each other, the gravitational pull and centrifugal forces acting upon the oceans vary and it is these differences that cause fluctuation in the height of the sea which we see at the tides going out and in.

In the UK we mostly experience a semi-diurnal tide which means we experience two high tides and two low tides each day. These occur approximately every 12 hours and 25 minutes.
