This Evening and Tonight:

A damp and cloudy night with outbreaks of rain, continuing across the region, a brisk northerly wind will also develop, particularly along the coast. The rain may be locally heavy at times. Minimum Temperature 12 °C.

Monday:

Feeling cool with outbreaks of rain accompanied by strong winds. The rain will become more patchy through the afternoon with western parts brightening up and becoming dry and winds easing. Maximum Temperature 17 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Mostly dry and fine on Tuesday with light winds. Dry to start on Wednesday, rain spreading in from the west, clearing overnight. Sunshine and scattered showers on Thursday.

What are tides?

Tides refer to the rise and fall of a body of water, most commonly seen in the oceans; caused by the interaction between the moon, sun and Earth.

As the positions of Earth, sun and moon change in relation to each other, the gravitational pull and centrifugal forces acting upon the oceans vary and it is these differences that cause fluctuation in the height of the sea which we see at the tides going out and in.

In the UK we mostly experience a semi-diurnal tide which means we experience two high tides and two low tides each day. These occur approximately every 12 hours and 25 minutes.
