Regional forecast for Yorkshire & Humber

Today:

A mostly dry but chilly start. Winds will be light, and any early mist patches will soon clear with sunny spells developing. Whilst most places should remain dry, scattered, heavy showers are then also expected, especially during the afternoon. Maximum Temperature 15 °C.

Tonight:

Showers soon easing, leaving clear skies and light winds. A cold night follows, with some mist patches by dawn, and perhaps a touch of grass frost in prone rural spots. Minimum Temperature 3 °C.

Sunday:

After a cold start, any early mist patches will clear, leading a generally fine and sunny day. Winds will also remain light. Maximum Temperature 16 °C.

Outlook for Monday to Wednesday:

Cold start Monday, but staying dry and sunny. Less cold early Tuesday, but remaining fine with further sunshine likely. Turning cloudier, with some rain overnight, clearing to sunny spells Wednesday.

What are tides?

Tides refer to the rise and fall of a body of water, most commonly seen in the oceans; caused by the interaction between the moon, sun and Earth.

As the positions of Earth, sun and moon change in relation to each other, the gravitational pull and centrifugal forces acting upon the oceans vary and it is these differences that cause fluctuation in the height of the sea which we see at the tides going out and in.

In the UK we mostly experience a semi-diurnal tide which means we experience two high tides and two low tides each day. These occur approximately every 12 hours and 25 minutes.
