Regional forecast for Dumfries, Galloway, Lothian & Borders

Today:

Some brightness across the southwest at first otherwise cloudy with some rain at times, most of this across the east. Misty low lingering across East Lothian and the Borders. Cool in the east but feeling warm in brightness across Galloway. Maximum Temperature 18 °C.

Tonight:

Any rain will die out this evening to leave all parts with a dry night. The southwest will be mainly clear but the east seeing some low cloud. Minimum Temperature 10 °C.

Monday:

Dry and sunny although the Borders will be cool with some persistent low cloud. Brisk north or northwesterly wind along exposed coasts. Maximum Temperature 22 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Dry on Tuesday, perhaps still rather cloudy in the east. Becoming more unsettled from midweek with some rain.

What are tides?

Tides refer to the rise and fall of a body of water, most commonly seen in the oceans; caused by the interaction between the moon, sun and Earth.

As the positions of Earth, sun and moon change in relation to each other, the gravitational pull and centrifugal forces acting upon the oceans vary and it is these differences that cause fluctuation in the height of the sea which we see at the tides going out and in.

In the UK we mostly experience a semi-diurnal tide which means we experience two high tides and two low tides each day. These occur approximately every 12 hours and 25 minutes.
