A mainly cloudy evening with outbreaks of rain, with the odd heavier burst possible. Remaining mostly cloudy overnight with further rain at times, especially for the Western Isles later, although some clear spells are possible towards Inverness. Minimum Temperature 9 °C.

Tuesday:

Cloudy with outbreaks of rain, turning heavier for a time, before brightening up through the afternoon with sunny spells and blustery showers developing. Occasionally strong westerly breeze developing. Maximum Temperature 17 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Fine and mostly dry on Wednesday with sunny spells. Thursday starts dry and bright but rain edges east in afternoon, the rain clearing eastwards on Friday with brighter conditions following.

What are tides?

Tides refer to the rise and fall of a body of water, most commonly seen in the oceans; caused by the interaction between the moon, sun and Earth.

As the positions of Earth, sun and moon change in relation to each other, the gravitational pull and centrifugal forces acting upon the oceans vary and it is these differences that cause fluctuation in the height of the sea which we see at the tides going out and in.

In the UK we mostly experience a semi-diurnal tide which means we experience two high tides and two low tides each day. These occur approximately every 12 hours and 25 minutes.
