Regional forecast for London & South East England

Today:

A good deal of cloud at first with outbreaks of rain in places. Becoming drier and brighter for a time with some sunny intervals. Further patchy rain is likely later. Strong winds at first, especially along the coast, easing later. Maximum Temperature 15 °C.

Tonight:

Cloud thickening this evening with a spell of heavier rain crossing all parts, clearing during the early hours of Saturday. Becoming windy once again. Minimum Temperature 10 °C.

Saturday:

A very windy day with gales along the south coast day, but to begin with dry with some sunshine. Showers developing through the morning, becoming heavy and more frequent later. Maximum Temperature 15 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Windy again on Sunday with sunny intervals and blustery showers, chiefly in the west. Rain at times on Monday, and perhaps Tuesday too though it will be less windy.

What are tides?

Tides refer to the rise and fall of a body of water, most commonly seen in the oceans; caused by the interaction between the moon, sun and Earth.

As the positions of Earth, sun and moon change in relation to each other, the gravitational pull and centrifugal forces acting upon the oceans vary and it is these differences that cause fluctuation in the height of the sea which we see at the tides going out and in.

In the UK we mostly experience a semi-diurnal tide which means we experience two high tides and two low tides each day. These occur approximately every 12 hours and 25 minutes.
