Today:

A dry and bright start with sunny spells once any early mist or fog clears. Cloud, rain and strengthening winds spreading sporadically east from mid-morning. Turning drier from the west later but staying breezy. Maximum Temperature 20 °C.

Tonight:

Cloud and any lingering rain clearing eastwards to leave a dry but cool night. with some clear spells. Southwesterly winds will slowly ease. Minimum Temperature 14 °C.

Thursday:

Sunshine and showers, some turning heavy for a time, but starting to ease later in the afternoon. Windy with a strengthening southwesterly breeze. Maximum Temperature 20 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Sunny spells and showers Friday. Heavy rain overnight into Saturday morning and further rain later in the day. Sunshine and occasionally heavy showers Sunday. Windy throughout the period.

What are tides?

Tides refer to the rise and fall of a body of water, most commonly seen in the oceans; caused by the interaction between the moon, sun and Earth.

As the positions of Earth, sun and moon change in relation to each other, the gravitational pull and centrifugal forces acting upon the oceans vary and it is these differences that cause fluctuation in the height of the sea which we see at the tides going out and in.

In the UK we mostly experience a semi-diurnal tide which means we experience two high tides and two low tides each day. These occur approximately every 12 hours and 25 minutes.
