This Evening and Tonight:

Remaining murky with mist and fog reforming through the evening, with some drizzle possible too. The fog however starting to clear by dawn as a breeze picks up. Feeling much milder as temperatures rise through the early hours. Minimum Temperature 5 °C.

Wednesday:

Starting mild but dull and grey although the developing breeze will start to clear the low cloud and mist allowing some brightness later. Rain may reach western parts by evening. Maximum Temperature 12 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Less windy on Thursday but heavy rain at times. Winds strengthening again Friday with further rain later. Winds easing Saturday with brighter spells after early rain clears. Remaining mild throughout.

What are tides?

Tides refer to the rise and fall of a body of water, most commonly seen in the oceans; caused by the interaction between the moon, sun and Earth.

As the positions of Earth, sun and moon change in relation to each other, the gravitational pull and centrifugal forces acting upon the oceans vary and it is these differences that cause fluctuation in the height of the sea which we see at the tides going out and in.

In the UK we mostly experience a semi-diurnal tide which means we experience two high tides and two low tides each day. These occur approximately every 12 hours and 25 minutes.
