Met Office

For Category 1 and 2 responders (as defined in the Civil Contingencies Act 2004). Weather warnings for specified severe weather events can be sent to responders using fax, email, FTP and SMS text message formats.

This web-based online registration system has been set up to enable appropriate agencies to register for the receipt of the NSWWS. Your organisation should assign a Primary Contact (and secondary contact as back-up) who is responsible for selecting the service preferences to meet your needs.

The service allows up to 12 recipients (defined by delivery method and warning selection) to be set up (and subsequently modified) to meet your organisation's needs. For each recipient, you can specify the delivery mechanism, weather warning type, and UK region(s) of interest; see below.

Once you have registered, changes to your service preferences and recipient list can be made as frequently as you require. Any changes made prior to 10:00 will be synchronised with our central database by 17:00 on the same day. Any changes made after 10:00 will not update our central database until 17:00 on the following day.

Severe weather warnings are issued in accordance with delivery details held within this central database. We request that wherever possible, you make changes to recipient details online during normal working hours. This will assist us in ensuring that the support of the service is maintained to the highest level.
