December 2013 - We are delighted to announce the appointment of four new Science Fellows, representing the broad range of skills in Science from underpinning research to cutting-edge computational science.
These Fellows have been appointed on the basis of their scientific and technical achievements which have contributed significantly to delivering Met Office objectives, and are recognised nationally and internationally as world-class.
Their appointments allow those staff to continue to focus on their area of expertise, to play an important role in fostering innovation and to work with the Chief Scientist to develop and deliver the Met Office Science Strategy. A Science Fellow is equivalent to a Professorship and many of our Fellows already hold a Visiting Professor position at leading UK universities.
The new Science Fellows and their areas of expertise are:

Along with the Deputy Directors and Strategic Heads, our Science Fellows play a critical role in the senior leadership of our Science Programme, and this leadership helps us to maintain our global standing in weather and climate science and services'.
