Dr Tommaso Benacchio

Tommaso works on developing and testing numerical methods for the Met Office's next generation dynamical core GungHo.

Current activities

Tommaso is a research scientist working in Dynamics Research. The current focus of his work is on implementing and testing a mixed finite-element scheme for the next generation dynamical core GungHo, with particular reference to aspects of the vertical discretization. Previously he investigated the behaviour of the current dynamical core ENDGame using normal mode analyses in a vertical column model.

Career background

Tommaso has been working in Dynamics Research since joining the Met Office in April 2014, and holds a PhD in Mathematics from Freie Universität Berlin, Germany, an MSc in Mathematical Engineering from Politecnico of Milan, Italy, and a BSc in Mathematics from the University of Padua, Italy.

External recognition

Tommaso has been an Associate Editor for Monthly Weather Review since January 2015.
