Robert works on data assimilation in marine systems.
Robert is currently working on a project to test the assimilation of sea surface height observations in the shelf seas which has the potential to improve the surge prediction in this important region. He is also working on observing system experiments with the Met Office's newly developed weakly-coupled data assimilation system. This allows the investigation of the impact of different observing systems in a coupled system.
Robert joined the marine data assimilation team at the Met Office in December 2012. Prior to joining the Met Office, Robert was a postdoctoral researcher in the Astrophysics Group at the University of Exeter where he worked on observational studies of stellar clusters and the evolution and atmospheric properties of sub-stellar objects. Before this, he graduated with an Astrophysics degree from the University of St Andrews and then moved to the University of Exeter to complete a PhD.
